BMC reports:
Evans finished 14th, 1:30 behind stage winner and race leader Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team), while conceding 1:11 to Rigoberto Uran (Sky Procycling), who finished third to move into second overall. Nibali launched his decisive attack in the last three kilometers of the 203-km race that finished atop Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Evans was riding with the group chasing Nibali when disaster struck. "I had a Schleckanical at two kilometers to go all the way to the finish and that cost me second place," Evans said. Between kilometers two and one, Evans lost 33 seconds to Uran and stage runner-up Fabio Duarte (Colombia) and an additional 28 seconds in the final kilometer. "He tried to resolve the Schleckanical, but the severe weather and the nature of the problem prevented him from doing so and it cost him valuable time," BMC Racing Team President/General Manager Jim Ochowicz said. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said it was a shame because Evans had been riding well up to that point. "All day, Cadel had good legs," Baldato said. "For sure, second was better than third. But we are still on the podium and tomorrow we need to control to make the race safe and then the goal is reached."

Would have been nice if they explained What the Schleckanical was.....

Fixed that, for you, and them :p

Really is great to see a team so completely committed to Nibali. You can tell by their reactions to his win today that they really believed in him. Even with limited riders, the guys they did have that were healthy dug deep and managed to do a great job for him the whole race. Honorable mention to Kangert and Agnoli, they've done fantastic job the entire race. Have really impressed me. The team have been working hard for 3 weeks, through rain, cold, and even snow. This is a great victory not only for Nibali but for his entire team!

Congrats to Nibali. Fastest downhill, uphill and TTing. He didn't get challenged many times due to the weather but it was clear that he'd always have been on top anyway. Most of the attacks through the race have come from him, from his downhill in the rain that scared Wiggins away to today, riding away to win when he had no need to GC-wise. Good on him!

The Colombians are doing ****ing fantastic today imo.

Indeed. Ryo is probably over the moon.

4 colombians in the top 10. You can make fun of Ryo all you want. And he is maybe over-enthousiastic. But he was/is right in the fact that the Colombians are clearly great climbers and have a fantastic generation at the moment. And they are all so young as well...

In 3/4 years we might look at all GT's being won by Colombians if they keep progressing..

The Colombian renaissance is just beginning. :D

Last year Nibali looked quite good tbh.

Last year Nibali just looked like Nibali as always. Limiting the losses very well, using his strenghts (especially downhill) and ending up with a podium TDF and some other nice results.
Just like all other years, just slightly stronger each year.

This year however, is a whole other rider. Not limiting losses but dealing damage uphill AND in the time trial.

Not comparable.

Last year he dealt damage uphill in both Tirreno and Tour (to anyone bar the SKY duo), and made two good ITTs.
In this Giro the ITT field was very poor. In fact, all the guys who were better than him in last year's TTs weren't there, except for Wiggo (who after all did beat him). The parcour of the Giro TTs was also better suited to him.
I don't mean it's the same as last year, but it's not that far, imo.

The competition isn't comparable either...

Nibali has improved, but not as much as you think. The 2012 Nibali would easily have won this Giro as well.

Well, that was probably based on pre-Astana Nibali. Which was a completely different rider.

You're mistaken. But you were the one who infamously stated that nibali never attacks, right? so I guess that's to be expected.

That quote was from 2010/2011 and right then completely true (uphill)

Again, riders change. Was already clear in 2012 but now Nibali stepped up another level.

So why do you hold a quote of 3 years old, which was then true, against me? Pretty pathetic.

Because it is funny. I don't even remember the quote, but it has been referenced so often. Has it really been that long? Time flies.

Still, Nibali is not a completely different rider, far from it. He's been improving every year, and this year he's 28, 29, right? Which is probably the age when most riders reach their peak, and when you'd expect him to be at his best.

I don't understand a word but the emotion is plan to see; I Love this sport :)

Granted, I don't know him personally, but seeing that kind of emotion from his teammates kind of reinforces what I already thought about Vincenzo - that he's just a good guy. I don't ever hear anything bad about him personally and he never seems too cocky or disrespectful to his fellow riders.
