That was the Vuelta, and I think it was 4 men. Kessiakoff, Agnoli, and Nibbles could perhaps try something similar though

Somehow strange, Weylandt died two years ago, and now such a stage profile.

Fingers crossed it´s dry and everything goes without serious crashes and injuries...

What is especially dangerous about tomorrow's profile?

i really think nibali will try something, don't know about the others, sky might go full gas on the climb to be sure nobody can attack
but on the descent, they can be dropped

It was in a belgian cycling magazine from this year (spring edition). Don't have a source for it.

I guess it depends in how much faith you have in my reading ability and truthfullness.
It's more about if that report was true. Doesn't make sense to me.

Vuelta 2011, 6.stage - Sagan, Nibali, Capecchi and Agnoli (+ Lastras from Movistar)

That was hilarious. The finish was like a carbon copy of LA-MSS, even down to them nearly losing the stage to the interloper, even if how they got to that point was less stupid. And Agnoli stealing the bonus seconds from Nibali by accident was pretty funny.

Fabio Felline ftw.

Justifying the hype (finally). For his talent as a cyclist he needs more than the circuit de lorraine on his palmares even at 23.Should be on a WT team.

Depends on the circumstances, for sure. Might become dangerous, maybe not.

As horrible as it sounds I'd rather that the occasional cyclist gets injured/perishes on a descent than them becoming irrelevant due to parcours never having descents in a position where they can be influential in the outcome of a stage.

One of the highlighters for the win. Maybe Di Luca, Gatto, or Rabottini. Anyone know how Santambrogio is on descending?

I expect Nibali will try something. He's called a demon descender, and he needs to take time on Wiggins whenever the opportunity presents itself. It would be stupid to not try something IMO. Was thinking he and Astana might try something like this actually.

Sky will want to make sure he doesn't get away, so having some teammates with him would help.

It's never too early. He's going to get blown away in the stage 8 chrono, and would lose the jersey anyway. He needs all the time he can get elsewhere. Besides, they'd only have to actively defend on stage 4 and 7. The sprinter's teams are probably going to be working hard on stages 5 and 6 to go for a win.

Makes sense.

I bet Nibali won't budge until stage 10. Willingness to try to gain the time whereever it is possible would only backfire for him in high mountains.

While certainly on Belgian tv there suddenly was hype about the Giro's first week being too dangerous, with a few nervous descents along the coastline, that had nothing to do with it. The guy was just looking behind on a very unfortunate moment.

The Tour de France saw half the peloton crash into each other at 70 km/h on a straight road. Should we ban all straight roads?

Nibbles will maybe try to get Wiggo feel a little awkward in the decent but maybe not a serious attack. I can definitely see a late breakaway wih this one.

Agree to this for sure. I think its too early for Nibali to attack. Doubt if he will do that today. Maybe test the legs a bit but nothing serious.

Anyways lets see what folds out. Start in about 2.5 hrs from now:D

Nibali may attempt, but it will show only weakness. A GC man trying to take time on stage like this — pfffff.... :)

Though as far as I remember Nibbs tried something similar in the Vuelta when Sagan won.

Wiggins is the fav everyone knows that what should nibali according to you in this race?

In all fairness - it does make sense to take some time off this stage...maybe simply pull back the 14 secs lost coz realistically Nibs will lose a big chunk of time in TT. So for him every second counts. But whether he will attempt it this early? Doubtful. Like you said a GC man trying to take time...but question is if this stage was in the latter part of the Giro...surely he would try then...so why not today?

Too many questions...I've got my own little countdown to this stage lol...less than 2 hours to start :D

Nibali should try to put an extreme effort in the mountains + maybe on the stage straight after Galibier. 5 MTFs is enough to take back hypothetical 3 minutes, if Wiggo turns out to be not very good.

But if he does turn out to be good, then Nibali might regret not taking a few seconds today.
