hmm, awful tt-ing? Yet it was his best ever long grand tour ITT...

You're right it was his best ever long TT, but I described the way it looked, not the performance itself. :eek:

Gesink never, and i mean never, looked good in an ITT.

He will never become a fluid stylist.
What matters is power output to the bike. He tried a more fluent style in 2010, which turned out horrible (worst ITT performances in his career in suisse and TDF)

“It wasn’t a hard decision," he said of his move. "I enjoyed my time with Sky and for my first two years as a pro it was the best place to be, but I wasn’t in the big races and I couldn’t see me getting in.

"Movistar wanted me and, more importantly, they wanted to put me into the big races," he added. "I’m very grateful to the team; they rested me as much as they could before this stage, and I’m glad to repay then for their faith in me."

I remember that. The great time triallist Steve Morabito beat him.

Gesink or Santa?
Santa is no real threat imo in a 3 week event. Gesink would be annoyed but clearly it is a slip of the tongue by Vincenzo.

ll Delfino Tricolore ;)
I am sure jens_attacks has already mentioned Nibali missing The Killer as a threat :p

I meant earlier in the race, on previous stages. His TT performance today was above all expectations, indicating that he is in super shape.

And about your comment, i think the only thing we can see from these results of the last little climb is that maybe Hesjedal and Uran dug too deep and that may come back to haunt them later in the race.

And, ofc, that Evans is in super shape, which is usually the case until we hit serious mountains. Except that once...
Evans is in good shape, but I think he has ridden himself into some form.

How would he know what wind the earlier riders had, did he ride the course twice?
People on the course, teammates, weather reports, general observations, etc.

Gesink and Evans are still largely unknown in regards to form in the mountains. At this point nibbles is the obvious favourite.

Wiggo you'd back to come good.

Can't remember gesink having such a good first week (with a ttt and 50k + itt) , hopefully for him he can deliver in the mountains.

2nd part times:

kangert 37:02 1:19:20 => 32:18
wiggins 37:12 1:09:37 => 32:25
henao 36:47 1:10:05 => 33:18
kelderman 37:45 1:11:06 => 33:21
scarponi 36:50 1:10:16 => 33:26
evans 36:42 1:10:11 => 33:29
nibali 36:12 1:09:45 => 33:33
gesink 37:01 1:10:36 => 33:35
uran 37:02 1:10:37 => 33:35
sanchez 38:19 1:12:28 => 34:09
pozzovivo 37:51 1:12:00 => 34:09
hesjedal 37:03 1:11:22 => 34:19
santambrogio 38:04 1:13:23 => 35:19

So basically, Nibali won nearly all his time on Scarponi/Gesink/Evans in the first part.

where did you (or anyone else) find the split times of such riders as Sanchez, Pozzovivo and Santambrogio?

People like me like to write down the split times. There was also a live ticker recording the times.

If he is time trialling well, then he will climb well. Just how well is the question.

Passing Serpa, which I guess means we can classify Serpa's ITT skills as toxic and he can join Mikel Nieve and Ezequiel Mosquera in that category.

what?

serpa's itt is really good. see last years giro alone. he has won at least 20 itt's in his career

To be fair to Wigans, he crashed and had a mechanical, and he seemed to do ******-all since the Olympics through winter.

of coruse wigigns didn't crash. if he had we would';ve sene it. my god. can't believe by reading these posts now. we saw eveyr fart wigigns did in the itt and not the crash? yeah right. he only had a mechnical that cost him 10-15 seconds max. he just did a horrible downhil and great 2nd part despite the wind change

Huh. First of all, that was posted in the middle of the stage, at a time when the best info we had said he had crashed. Secondly, it was a ****ing joke about his partying hard and smoking and what not after the Olympics.
