maybe because he ride slow before, so he has energy to go up quickly. Ryder is the example on the other end of the stick.

I meant earlier in the race, on previous stages. His TT performance today was above all expectations, indicating that he is in super shape.

And about your comment, i think the only thing we can see from these results of the last little climb is that maybe Hesjedal and Uran dug too deep and that may come back to haunt them later in the race.

And, ofc, that Evans is in super shape, which is usually the case until we hit serious mountains. Except that once...

Today was the best ITT Pozzovivo has done, brilliant effort. Bodes well for him animating the race next week.

Well, at least choosing a lighter bike did work out for Gesink in one respect. In recent history his uphill TTing was abysmal.

His performance on the flatter part however wasn't as dominant as the Suisse 2012 one. Kelderman handled it much better even with a standard TT bike, after today he's IMO the best Dutch GC talent. No offense but Gesink still won't surprise me if he fails in the mountains.

Personally I think Gesink chose the wrong bike. I don't know how you can argue Kelderman handled the flat part better, he was slower than Gesink on it . And as you say, he rode a TT bike.

You're right about that, I forgot about Wilco's worse flat part.

Gesink looked pretty awful, which didn't matter because he wasn't shown in the broadcast.

The impression I get from what I've seen is that he's actually TT'ing like in 2010 and earlier, just shaking violently all over the bike, without any grip or control. Bad aerodynamics as well, but apparently it works on this type of course.

Or is this just wishful thinking, hoping this gets his old climbing back?
;)

What did happen to Benat. That was an abysmal tt from someone who is really not that bad at the discipline, has no reason to be particularly tired, and had the jersey on his back.

Has to be some explanation.

How about he didn't particularly trained for this ITT?

Intxausti himself expected more of today, but he felt tired during the TT, not feeling well after the technical section of the course.

Doesn't bode well for his next few weeks.

JV tipped everyone to fly. It was like reading a jens attacks post - Froomey will massacre everyone, Cobo will peak like an angel, Alberto will fly like Pantani, Di Luca been training like 2007 etc etc.

hmm, awful tt-ing? Yet it was his best ever long grand tour ITT...
