The climbing time is from last time check to finish, so they should possible to calculate easily.

Thx

The gazzetta page (at least the one I have) doesn't show the intermediate times; i find their live site lacking in information.

Where did you find a good overview of all the times at all checks?

He normally is. It was an unusually bad ITT from Benat and an unusually good ITT from Nibs.

Anyway as a guy who picked Nibali for the win in every poll so far, I cannot be more happier at this unexpected success.

He worked very hard on his new TT bike and improved his position. And he go through the course at least twice in the winter:D

But he gained one minute on both Evans and Nibali didn't he?

Yes, but if you look at the sum total, or the 3 pieces, it just was not near the standard it would have been last year, and he claimed he was in that shape.

If you expected him to be this standard, then of course the ride was on par. If you expected him to be as good as he claimed, and as good as last year, it was all below par, but the front half was even worse.

mmmm Ryder must of had some problems today :(
on the other side Cadel is very good, and his team does not have to control the race tomorrow and before the finish on tuesday.

Exactly. Evans will be loving this. No resposibility for his team and in striking distance. Really he should be able to take that time from nibali on the mountain itt, otherwise he should have a chance for a few bonus seconds later on in the race.

All in all, a perfect (and surprising) spot for him to finish the first week!

brilliant ride by Wilco Basementman.

Hesjedal very disappointing. Kruijswijk as well, even though he might have had a flat.

Wiggins recovered superbly from yesterday. Only 10s slower including a bike change. He started slow, but then really took advantage of the less technical second section.

Great performance by Nibali.

Gesink did well enough. Evans paced himself very well, great result for him.

I forgot Scarred Pony, excellent result for him too.

Again descending is his achille heels. Hope for more fireworks in the descending part. Even scarponi manages a good TT. What did I say, the TT is for everyone. I have to applaud the Giro organizer. Very very crafty and well designed course. So far we got so many unexpected. As if they organizer hire the mother nature to take a part..:p

What sky would do now? they never down in time before with their leader. Attacked? more riding to the SRAM? what happen with wiggin? wrong calculation in the first part? SRAM malnufaction when it comes to descent? I wonder what hesjedal will do? Attacked more? will nibail push more in the descent??? First week is already lots of excitement.. Why TDF why are you so boriiiingggg and predictable????? I wish in the future people would consider Giro and the Vuelta = the Tour. Why is the TDF is so great if it's not because of the history? maybe someone should drop tons of money winning prize to Giro and Vuelta.

Great ride by Evans. This is a very good sign. Obviously Nibali was a big surprise but I think it is fair to say that Evans will improve as the Giro goes on due to his low base and racing conditions that he had going into the Giro.

Wiggins can not win the Giro with only gaining 11s on Nibali and 29s on Evans today

I just took notes during the stage:eek:

But the cyclingnews race report usually have all the splits.

Nibali, making people eat humble pie since like forever.

Seriously though, he certainly utilizes his talents better than just about anyone. The only sad thing about today's result is that we may not now see some of his dare devil descending skills. Oh well.

You are reading too much into one climb. Just like others in this forum. Trust me when the big mountains come results can be reversed completely. Aerobic versus anaerobic.

I've not often seen Wiggins accused of being an anaerobic rider.

Anyway, great ride for Henao, with a little help...

Even before the race, I had him down as the joint best climber in the race, so expect he will go very well, either for himself, or for Wiggins if the team decide there is any more joy down that road.

What does this data really tell you though? If a rider backed off a bit before hitting the final ramp, he would likely have more to give and be faster. Just an observation. Evans seems to be the freshest going into the final climb. Did he back off in the run in. Did Nibali go out too fast? All these questions are relevant and can certainly cloud small gaps such as these.
