I actually like Chavanel FTW now. My (illogical) thought process:

- The big favourite doesn't often win because classics are unpredictable. That's the point of them. Sagan out.

- OPQS has a very strong team, but I don't think Cavendish is the one to benefit, and Boonen can't be either.

- Chavanel just won a reduced sprint in Nice.

But I've said so many different things in this thread they've become meaningless.

Stijn Vandenbergh for a top-10 spot.

Do you realize that he is tall and heavy and therefore any race that has the word "hill" in description is not suited for him?

The PCM line is my go-to when people post daft tactics in the Pro Racing section ;)

I do remember someone (and i thought it was you) once upon a time saying that MSR on PCM on the hardest mode is impossible because Cancellara attacks on the flat 40k out and cant be brought back.

:D

Google translating this article has given me a lot of laughs:

Federer, winner of this great classic Italian in 2008 , was responsible for heating the spectacle [?!?!?! Federer?]

Asked about how to run the Slovak Cannondale, 'Spartacus' has made clear his discomfort with' The Bug '.' If I meet him in the end, does not relieve you, not him [?!?!?!?!?! The Bug? ]

Favorite will be the number one, [?!?! You don't say!]

Although I don't think Cancellara will win, his victory would be an epic one... Only a heroic ride can bring him a victory.
I really like this race. It's length, dynamics and scenery. It's, also, the first big thing in a season... The real opening of great battles.

I cant remember, but did Sagan not do Cancellara at TDF stage 1 like Gerrans did at MSR and refuse to cooperate?

Yes.
It's not some kind of exception in Cancellara's case. MSR 2012, De Ronde and Roubaix 2011 (the only diffrence is it happened on the way to the finish, and not at the finish), the Tour stage...
I think he's full of it and Sagan was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Maybe he should reconsider his approach.

Cancellara´s problem is not that people are sucking, his problem is that he, at best, doesn´t improve any more, I´d even say he´s already on his way down from the top.

Pozzato sucks Boonen when Tom is top, people sucked Gilbert, soon people will suck Sagan. It´s just normal that the wheels of the top guys get searched.

Cancellara had his time 2006 to 2010, now it´s time for others, so what.

It was man against man in Stade actually, Moser against Cancellara, nothing else! And Moser let no chance to him, being in his 2nd yr as a pro!

You're right.
The cognition that he's past his prime, although he might not be consciously aware of it, bothers him.

the bit about Gerrans= valid up to a certain point-but man...:D
about Sagan? just busting his balls-he ain't got nothing "real" on him...

Fabian is set to make everyone work against him.

Yes, but you'd of thought by now Fabian would of learned his lesson of not going to the front or forcing the others to work with him, they invented brakes for a reason :D

Fabian has no sprint plain and simple or at least no sprint against those who have beat him as of late. Not all races can be a TT. I doubt Sagan would be a good wheel to suck off of for long, the guy jumps so many times like McEwen in the finali's that anyone on is only on for a short while. Fabian and Boonen are not guys who have more than one jump/acceleration to shake others off.

c'mon. It will probably be a group of 10-15 riders grouped after the descent from Poggio. most of these will not want a sprint. there will be numerous attacks, and I can't possibly see that Sagan can have enough teammates at the time to counter them all; he might have to do it all by himself. if it is raining all day the domestics will fade away early. someone will eventually get away, and it may very well be a guy like Van avermaet or Roelandts or Paolini. Or maybe Haussler? The smartest guy will win.

After the descent, there's like 3 km to the finish? There will be some guys trying to escape. But like nine out of ten times there will be some guy like Pippo completely sucking the weels of the best riders and no one will want to ride. Actually the only guy stupid/stubborn enough to ride all the way to the finish with two guys in his wheel is Canc.

And even if some guys go along together, there will be Moser closing the last gap. I honestly don't believe there's gonna be a succesful attack after the descent of the Poggio when there's goona be some 15 guys in front

In that case i would say someone like Albasini who would probably also have Goss/(maybe) Impey with him, Gilbert (who will have numbers as well) or Cancellara to attack.

I really like Nibali's attacking mentality which he is showing since Giro di Lombardia 2011 so i really hope he pulls something special and takes the win Sunday.

Horrible conditions expected. Rain mixed with snow at the start in Milano. Snow around Alessandria all day long. Warmer but probably still wet heading to San Remo.
