Unless the climbers absolutely go ballistic, I'm becoming more and more convinced this will be won by Fabian, Sagan, or Stybar.

Stybar seems a great outside bet. After his PR and Eneco dominance, he's proven (to me at least) he has what it takes. I'd bet he'll welcome the weather as well (2x CX champ after all!).

Anyone know if there has there ever been a multi-discipline (MTB or CX & road) men's world champ (both earned in senior/pro career)? Time between victories?

For some reason my head told me Adri van der Poel did it, but when I looked it up he only has a 2nd place at the worlds RR, he has a win at the CX worlds though. So my head was lying to me. His son will defintely succeed in winning both btw. ;)

lets trollfest begins

After the U23 race this looks tailor made for Sagan. But then really, even Nibbles for example has great chances.
In the end it looks like it's not really the two climbs per-se, but climbs + descent are a deadly combo on such a course. You gain a few meters on the climb, you keep pushing downhill, and you're gone, 20 secs, you can go straight to the finish line.

Not exactly the terrific course expected, but a very tactical one. And again, considering it'll probably rain, it'll be utter carnage.

it is hard, but usually would be 16 laps, and are only ten, with more than 100 kms with just two climbs, the rest very plane, but the circuit is hard.

Today there were just 170 Km, and that for people as Yates that was in GB winning clearly to a string David López is not too much, but it has been quite selective.

Usually in the hard worlds the U23 is a less selective race than the elite, contrary to the soft ones, becouse the U23 race is less controled.

Of course if Sagan win nodody would be surprised, but he has never won a hard hilly one day race, and there are some race situations good for him, but there are anothers that he depens to others teams

I think Cancellara and Sagan will have a hard time winning. If/when Cancellara goes everyone will be in his wheel. If some second tier contender goes everyone will look at Sagan and Cancellara. Sagan's team is too weak and Cancellara won't drag Sagan to the line. I think the chances that an attack, either solo or a small group, which contains neither of them, will fight it out.

After seeing the under 23, favourit is cancelara.

The parcours fits for agressive riders, technical and strategicly... Then he is neither slow arriving in a small bunch

Boasson hagen also can win

I think it's going to be a very hard race, countries with good climbers will make it hard to try to isolate and exhaust Sagan and Cancellara. If Sagan and Cancellara are isolated with 2 or 3 laps to go, and the spaniards, italians, and columbians for example still have a few of their strongers riders left, the attacks will surely come and it will be hard for Sagan and Cancellara to control the attacks.

Think it's going to be a very exciting race.

I believe it is too long and hard course for EBH. Beside the Worlds last year he hasn't showed us much in the +250k races (RVV, PR, MSR, not top 10 in one of them so far...). And this years course is way tougher than last years.

Visconti has Lombardia results that say he can very much survive a long day on the bike, in the rain.

Im guessing this new Movistar version even more so maybe.

2011 T-A/ MSR form is what he needs.
Visconti on Galibier :)

His prep for the Worlds has been far from perfect. I doubt he's got the for to perform here.

I would get it if it happened tomorrow, but how can they not be able to get a new bike for him over the duration of a day? Surely some other Katusha rider can lend him one of their spare bikes, or he can just buy one at a local cycling shop...
