Check the rulebook. Organizers have some discretion to grant exemption for certain cases.

i know the rule book says that. but it also says that organizers may consider relaxation only if they think that the rider was involved in a racing incident.

LOL De Gendt fastest first split time... He was nowhere yesterday and today...

I bet he's gonna win in Alpe d'Huez.
Why are people surprised. He was 3rd in first tt wasnt he and 5th in grenoble 2 years ago, which had some hills too, despite being injured all Tour.

Add to that that he is a top climber, and rides before the weather gets bad, he was always a very good shot to win this.

Cannondale guys all seem to be going strong collectively.

well, yes, I am pretty curious, if sagan really takes it easy as he mentioned yesterday in interview, with the top guys in rain, he might get pretty good result considering he's probably the best descender here and it seems that he will not be riding on wet.

Wonder if the weather forecast and early times will change his mind...

It's not being surprised at the results, at least for me.

It's being surprised at his attitude. He keeps on baffling me. He really could deliver much more than he actually does, it just seems like sometimes he can't be bothered to put some effort into his rides.

Exactly

3rd in that time trial in Grenoble a second ahead of Porte.

De Gendt was always a chance for a top result depending where his head was at. The De Gendt that couldn't be ****ed didn't show up today.

Will he win? I hope so, but he's on track for a top 3 time today regardless.

tony martin also took 20 seconds from de marchis time, maybe westra and martin changed the bike and de marchi and others didn't?
Martin doesn't need to change his bike to take 20 secs on De Marchi on a flat/descent... actually I don't think his bike change really paid off that much.

I wonder what he will conclude from this TT regarding his GC aspirations... "I can't climb"?

I'm surprised because yesterday he couldn't do anything in the breakaway and looked poor and today is flying.

People are surprised because yesterday he was the first guy to get dropped from the breakaway...

Seems like he is in great TT form but bad road form, for some reason.
