De Gendt is a mystery. Yesterday he was the first to get dropped from the break.

Nicely understated, de Gendt whats with this guy?, somedays he can climb/ time trial with the very best, others he is awful, poor recovery? anyone?

He is often at his best at the very end of a GT (Tour 2011, Giro 2012). So his recovery is probably very good. I think his problems are mainly in his head.

I'm backing Froome to take at least 3 minutes on Kittel on each climb, and descend no worse than him, unless the rain is bad.

When you put it like that, I could see quite a bit lower.

Yesterday he was bad, according to himself. If you're racing for a stage win in the Tour and you're dropped that early I don't think it's a mental problem.
