Imagine the situation where a breakaway gets over dry Sarenne, and a thunderstorm catches peloton on the top of the first d'Huez, so they have to wait the storm to finish in order to descent Sarenne.
Time gaps could be huge. That's why this early activity.
They are racing against the weather today, too.
