Break for the win.

Probably with an Europcar, but would rather have another from Rui Costa or Cunego.

Not one for Froome

Interesting
Even if hes there towards the end Kennaugh wont be too pace him down.He has shown hes no Wiggins in the descents but with podiums and maybe stage wins on offer they will be going nuts downhill.

I doubt froome will have an energy bonk on this stage. Porte looked good today and I don't think he will crack like after the Ax-3 MTF. Quintana can probably put the hurt to saxobank towards the later mountains. Rodriguez seems to go better and better now in the 3rd week. He could very well put Contador in trouble.

Mr. Quintana to slip away for the stage, unless a very strong break is allowed.

True.

But with the exception of a breakaway, and I admit it is only 28 people so far;

Maybe people are not expecting him to hit the final climb in the lead group ?

Maybe Froome will now wheel suck which might not be a bad plan?

Its too early to draw any conclusions but interesting nonetheless.

B4 today's finish i'd say Costa was going for the break again tomorrow, as he dropped too soon, but now that Nairito is assaulting second place Movistar will need the entire army to defend themseves against a possible Saxo droping attempt. Day 3 is where Nairo will finish Contador. Tomorrow is all about limitng losses.

Froome panics again, this time on Madeleine while he is attacked by Saxo. All Sky are dropped except Porte who is sent for something. He has a mechanical while the team car crashes. In the meantime Quintana passes the Col first followed by Alberto and Purito. By now Froome is down 3 minutes and Richie is nowhere to be seen. Let the drama begin!

Froome & Porte to drop everyone on the last climb to deny Quintana the stage win and enforce yet again the SKY philosophy of "no gifts"

No GC action before last climb I think. Easy break away stage. Nieve should be the favorite here, but who knows, Radioshack might decide to defend Monfort's 14th place.

I predict a strong break including Serpa, Nieve, Bardet, Poels, Jeannesson and Riblon. De Marchi is my outside bet.

So all previous MTFs were anticipated with 'all against Sky' theories. So let's theotirize about that too. How about all against Saxo alliances?

1. Movistar want to take 2nd place;
2. Katusha want to kick away Contador from the podium;
3. Sky want their revenge since Contador dared threaten them with 1 long long raid. :p

I see Tinkoff trying on the couple of HCs. Glandon offers several opportunities.
If they fail in the first half of the stage, they can try again on the final climb and descent.
A GC guy who feels good tomorrow can climb up the ranks.
A breakaway should be interesting too. Lots off climbing quality with lost GC hopes.

There has been no Saxo alliance however there has been a MoviSky alliance but with Quintana in third that should now be dissolved.

Movistar is the only team that can create chaos and potentially finish things off.

Saxo will mostly defend their positions now.

Valverde FTW.

Movistar to go crazy on the Glandon.

In a dream world Movistar will decide Froome showed weakness today and will try to see if they can break him tomorrow.

In the real world, Movistar will take up Sky's job for them, and make sure Nairo stays within seconds of Contador, knowing he will take those seconds in Annency and finish 2nd.

It's in the cards for Alejandro to win this one.

Far, far more dangerous stage for Froome than today's (even if he remembers that his back pockets aren't just there for the sponsors logo).

Just for a moment, forget the clinic stuff and ask yourself a question: "have you ever seen anyone with this much superiority over the field look so, so, nervous"?

Heard a lot of criticism about Saxo's tactics today, but you can understand their thinking. And any doubts about whether Froome is British or not have, for me, disappeared. The guy is undoubtedly a "Good Egg"......

Made to be cracked. ;)

It's not over.

Thomas D'Gendt

He rested today. Finished on the grupetto. He's a breakaway specialist in these kind of gigs. Part of team LanterneRouge-Fantasy:Froome,Contador,Sagan,Greipel,Manx'man,Quintana,Fuglsang, & Gerrans.
10 stages, top three GC, top three Points, Top s-25, top two KOM....Lotto'Placings....No substitutions.....Still 500 grands left 4 Me!

Haha. Exactly.

I was hoping to see some more power out of Saxo today to set up stages 19/20. But Froome owns this race.

I don't get the obsession with the Glandon. The design of the stage won't reward any action on either HC climb.

Breakaway FTW. I'm thinking Bardet, maybe even Schleck if he can get a decent lead at the top of the final climb. But Bardet has been smart and has a sense to hit right breakaways and than win from them, and he's been excellent in the mountains this Tour. Nieve and Rolland will try to get to the break but won't be able to hang on the Croix Fry. Other candidates include Simon Clarke, Thomas De Gendt, Alessandro De Marchi, Dan Martin, José Serpa and Cadel Evans.
