Just to reiterate for people who missed it.

Movistar twitter confirming that Valverde, Costa, Quintana and Amador had no problems. so it's most likely a mistake.

wow, thank God:)...really looking forward tomorrow if he can stay with the best.2 months in Colombia has to pay off:p

I just saw the second group and I did not see Quintana. There was one small rider but He did not look like Quintana. So it is probably an error.

Aye, an error. It was Rojas in the second group.

@Movistar_Team
El cronometraje sitúa erróneamente a Rojas en lugar de Quintana en el 1º pelotón. Prueba gráfica (a la derecha) #TDF: pic.twitter.com/ZavNsSLYkF

Yeah, but wait for the next 180 man field, where he will certainly get top 3;).

Very confusing; he can't do anything against 48 men, but comes 2nd in mass bunch sprint:confused:
He seems to be better at positioning when the speed is high. When the speed is low like today positioning is not about strength but about being smart and being able to push other riders away. EBH is too afraid and too kind, whenever someone wants his spot they just push him a little and he drops back 20 places in the peloton...

I really don't get why Sky can't just have one guy up there to help him, surely someone like Kennaugh could've assisted him a little today.

did Kelly really say that Impey could do an exeptional ride in yellow tomorrow?

Probably. I heard Paul Sherwen talking EBH up for the last 20 kilometres and how Sky had given him free reign.

There are a lot of delusional commentators out there. Kelly and Sherwen are two of the biggest.

Impressive stuff! IMO better than HTC's best back in the day simply because they shelled out the 3 other big sprinters. Lotto and Quickstep were given a mighty ***** slap today. Green jersey race is over already. Sagan has it.

Eh? I don't get it.

The selection was made after that 2nd category climb, clearly the real sprinters like Cav, Greipel, & Kittel were taking it easier on that climb. Sagan is more an all rounder who can climb well.

Nygaard said Impey was quite cooked today, and tomorrow they will take a break and hopefully have something left later in the race.

Kiri and Lopez's absence from the front group explained (google translate):

Two trapped foolishly Sky

If the free acceleration Cannondale trapped most of the sprinters in the main climb of the day, the tactical move of the Italians made the most surprising victim: two riders from Sky, David Lopez and Vasil Kyrienka, finished the day in the second pack with Cavendish and others when they have a valuable role to take in the mountains and when the road rises.

Could this be a sign of weakness of the British team? "Not at all, said the manager Dave Brailsford. It was just tactics. Vasil had stopped to adjust his saddle and David (Lopez) was arrested for a'' natural'' need, as you say, just as the Cannondale rolled. Nine times out of ten, there's nothing going on at that time. But there is nothing to worry about."

Right now my expectation and desire is just that we have a breakaway instead of group riding:eek:

fantastic racing by cannondale, pretty brutal to hold on that gap to three teams chasing. hopefully they will do something like that in the second week too.
sagan, no problem.

Unbelievable day for Cannondale and especially with the whole team finishing within 1.34 of each other

According to the Tour de France classification Quintana is in the second group. Oh well!

http://www.letour.fr/le-tour/2013/us/classifications.html

He did something similar in La Vuelta.

I'm amazed how wrong these classifications can be:
Today José Serpa made it with the peloton in 85th position (0 secs to Sagan), but he appears to have lost 10" in the GC (at 1:34)
My comparison is Cunego who had the same time in Overall yesterday (at 1:24)

Serpa got a 10 second penalty according to the official result, same for Bak and Rojas. I don't know the reason yet but can give you an update later on

Fair enough, Merci

Brailsford to Procycling.no: "We never considered helping Edvald in the sprint. If we had given him a sprint train, and Froome had lost 10 seconds, we would have looked stupid".

That makes sense. I'm sure Froome would have gotten dropped by the peloton immediately if they had given EBH a guy to help him out. Brailsford is such a tactical genius.
