False - much like the similar Rifugio Gardeccia (also about 6km and 10%) Peña Cabarga was not a brand new summit but a long-forgotten one when it was included in the 2010 Vuelta.

For the record, the other winner on the climb is Ángel López del Álamo, who won from the break. It was the biggest achievement of his career by far.

You're absolutely right, part of my mistake comes to the fact that different sources say that there were only 2 summit finishes on this climb.

That and the fact that Jafferau and Peña Cabarga are very similar.

Nibali wasn't stronger there  all he did was follow Horner (/Kiserlovski) all the climb and take a couple of meters in the final.. pretty lame actually. Not at all stronger. Even admitted himself he was happy to even follow.

strange people are tipping nibali for the win when Horner has been stronger on every climb so far

Judging by this is it's even stranger people are tipping Purito and Valverde for the win when obviously Horner has been stronger.

wrong wrong wrong

<Colombian biased>
Winner will be from a breakaway.
Uran said he was going for it, Betancur/Anacona/Sarmiento said they were hunting stages. Henao also wants to do something. Only two stages left.
One of them will win

Purito to pull a Purito victory by a Purito-styled attack...

Nibs still in Rojo

After the last few stages, I wonder if Saxo have another party trick to show us. Hopefully they'll try to pull some stunt again.

Nibali should be back to strength here and not lose time. Horner needs to stay with Nibs on the next 2 stages and then make him pay on the 3rd and final mountain stage on Saturday where Nibali has a tendency to suffer after 2 tough stages before.

Purito to win this stage.

Probably the only one with the strength to do it is Uran.

Betancur could do what he did in the Giro 2 years ago when he was saving energy to get a stage towards the end. He was very strong that day.

A doubt regarding the climbs.

Is there a profile for the cat 2 climb, alto del caracoal? The summit of that climb is just 40 km from the finish, and most of those km are downhill. Can this be used as a launchpad for a long range attack?

I am hoping to see a win for a gutsy attack from someone.

My prediction: GC guys will come together, or with at most 10-20 sec diff. Only guys who could change that are jrod and roche in the top-5. Konig to overtake pinot or pozzo or both in GC.

:D:cool:

i have a feeling that purito will go thermo-nuclear today and also on naranco and angliru. he wants to win this vuelta and he can sustain the attacks

so i think

1.purito
2.horner +25
3. valverde, nibali,pozzovivo,pinot +50

hopefully pena cabarga will be as cool as in the last 2 times. high expectations from this

Nibali didn't do any recon on 2010, although I recall he made a huge mistake attacking at the wrong place (following his DS instructions) and losing the stage to Purito in a spectacular way.

I'm hoping Henao can save his vuelta with a win today but that might be wishful thinking.

I would be amazed if Sky will win anything here, they seems made of fail this GT and under a curse.

Since lately he can't remember the mountains he climbs beforehand only when he's actually in the race, looks around and it seems familiar, maybe he did.
