he has competed in messy sprints soooo many times. Several times in the tour, i remember he even once did a straight sprint in the giro and came 3rd.

I have never seen cancellara ride to harm others, but only to win.

cycling can be a quite cruel sport. Epic ride by Martin. I would trade Saganś 4 Colorado wins for this one for Martin. :(

I don't think he has come 3rd in a sprint in Giro, but he came 4th in 2011 World Champs RR when Cav won, and fifth on Champs Elseeys in the Tour that same year (when Cav won).

Cancellara did come 4th in the WRR in 2011 remember, granted, that was after 260km so perhaps more suited to his engine but he's a more useful sprinter than given credit for.

Don't get me wrong I was rooting for Tony Martin and gutted for him but to claim Cancellara shouldn't compete for a GT stage win because of some TTing boys club is ridiculous.

I just spotted that Morkov had never won a GT stage before.

Leaving TTT, he had never come in top-10 of a GT.

This is his second win(after national RR) for him this year.

I think the national jersey has given him fresh wings.

leaving the national races, his previous podium finish (in terms of stage and GC) was in 2011 tour of denmark.

And more importantly, he is in the right side of 30.

Congratulations.

Yeah, congratulations to Morkov. He's a little unfortunate that his big win happened at the very end of someone else's heroic ride, but he'll always have a GT stage win on his palmares.

Being mad because Cancellara sprinted is ridiculous. I'm a big QS fan and really like Martin but no one had an obligation to not ride because of how gutsy his day was. If anything all the drama is on how pitiful it was that they couldn't pull him back sooner. And on Cancellara sprinting. In this field any strong rider should be trying for a sprint.

We know it is ridiculous, but we are fans not judges we can be mad of anybody if we want to be. Martin´s f..d up season could be saved by one f...g heroic ride, but Cancellara was against. Without his effort he could make it. I just hope Sagan will steal the RVV and Styby P-R from him next year. :)

There were 5 other guys that went past Martin. I'm far from a Cancellara or Shack fan but this is like the racing version of Clinic logic.

Martin was great, but Argos and company were a bit embarrassing. He may be by far the best TT rider currently, but he was in a solo break for 165k and yet they couldn't close the last part of the gap.

And it wouldn't have happened in the Tour.

But take nothing away from Martin, unbelievable ride.
