why are there -ve points for a few?

This will only happen on the daily change table. Matthews' points after stage 7 included 500 for leading the GC, 70 for leading the mountains, and 7 for being 6th in the points. By the end of stage 8, he had dropped to 74th overall (15 points) and in the mountain ranking he had dropped to 6th (7 points) in the mountain rankings. He remained 6th in the red jersey standings. So he lost 485 projected GC points and 63 projected mountain points for a daily loss of 548.

He wasn't my first choice, Amador and Beltran were my top choices, but after the last update, I couldn't fit Amador due CQ points and then Beltran couldn't get the visa to enter in Italy, guess I got a little lucky too.

I think Evans would need to hang onto at least second place in GC to have any chance of that. I suspect that relatively expensive lieutenants in Niemiec and Cardoso, who have done little for your total, will count against you.

What is very much to the advantage of the Evans teams is the daily 18 point increments for holding the pink jersey. If he gets through the weekend with that, it will be a very useful bonus.
