is svein tuft intentionally trying to come in last? or is he really just that terrible right now? i thought he would gain time over lots of people in the time trial. is he injured?
Several things led to a no-brainer decision to ride easy:
[] It's not perfectly suited to him, he excels on flatter corso.
[] As you all know, he still in recovery mode after heavy falls.
[] Given tomorrow is an easy day and not mountains, GC guys were expected to go very, very hard in the TT.
[] As a result of the above, if Svein did go all out, he'd place high, but wouldn't win. He'd move from 175 to 170 place.
Risks for Svein? Huge; having to drop out this wkd, or miss an upcoming time limits.
Orica is depleted (half the team is gone) and need horsepower for the run-ups to the mountain climbs. He still has to get over lots of mtns, and will use also use next week's TT as an easy day.
Svein also finished last in last year's TdF, a couple minutes behind a guy named
Kittel. 30 guys failed to finish. Specialists like Tuft aren't paid by their GC placement. Who came in last in the TT? Some guy named
Bouhanni.
