The only question prior to this stage: tomorrow the beginning of the Ivan Basson show?

Think breakaway may go for broke ahea of rest day.

Who may fancy a breakaway day? Duarte, Hansen, Hoogerland, Roche?

These are names who could be in the break

Also candidates are Pantano (rode good today), Mourey (if he shuds of his mentality of being a GC rider), Duarte, Rosa, Rubiano, Cataldo, Wellens....

ulissi again most likely. hopefully rolland is not cooked and gives it a try. or diego rosa

Yes unfortunately Ulissi is the big favourite again, GC guys can and will all try to save their legs. Put this MTF in the third week though and carnage ensues. I wish they'd have put in a tougher climb at this point of the race.

I think the GC guys will pull everyone in similar to today. And then Ulissi should take the win from that group again.

the thing is lampre refuse to do any decent work in front of the pleton, since Ulissi has already won two stages. I doubt any other team will let Lampre get away again in stage 9. Unless Lampre chase, I would say breakway win this one.

With Cunego and Niemiec probably out of the GC, Lampre should use all resources and setup another win for Ulissi while he's still in form.

Or maybe Vuillermoz if he gets to save himself for the finale.

I expect a crappy race on a crappy designed stage, with a crappy result
My signature says it all

Now that Aru is sole leader of Astana, they can put all their force to the front at destroy the field up the last mountain. Quintana vs Basso vs Aru, battle of the century

Probably Ulissi again. Everyone's going to wait until the last 150 meters.

This.
Everyone bit tired from today's stage, plus stage route doesn't allow much fantasy.

Probably this stage will be decided in another sprint/attack by a second tier favourite like Kiserlovski. I expect Kelderman to be up there with the big names again and hopefully he'll give the Top 5 a shot. He'll certainly try it, but I don't know if he's gonna be able to hang on on the Zoncolan.
Hope Moreno doesn't fck it up again in the finish. It's one of Katusha's last shots to save this GT..

He's in great shape right now, but is most likely going to blow up later. Top 10 would be a nice result for him. As for tomorrow's stage, Basso will win:cool:

I think break has a good shot for this stage, who has a chance:
Rosa?Santaromita?Duarte?Niemec?CAS?Cardoso?Landa?Cataldo?Weening?Hoogerland?Monsalve?Geschke or Arredondo and Pirazzi again?

Is anybody of these out of the contention due to injury?

If there was a poll I'd vote break to win, and if picking two from numerous contenders I'd go with:

Weening - because it's a surprise attempt when most will think OGE will all rest up for now until the sprint stages, having had their fun in pink and fulfilled objectives.

Rubiano - because someone from that team will go as it's all about stage wins now, and Rubiano has done it before in the Giro.

Rather surprised at Aru's outside odds even after he's been mixing it up with the very best climber's in this race. He'll be even stronger now that Astana doesn't have to worry about dragging Scarponi up any mountains.

If Movistar had a strong team they could really tear it up on the steep section, but they are probably too weak.

That's Quintana's biggest problem.

Dear God:

Please show us your mercy by allowing a goddamn breakaway to make it to the finish line---I'm so sick & tired of the GC riders waiting at the last k to attack :D
