Despite the panflat parcours, the Hungarian RR was a very entertaining race, mostly because Utensilnord wanted to exhaust Lovassy and Kusztor by always attacking. Shortly after the start, Zoltán Lengyel and Gergely Kiss made a move that had to be covered because of Lengyel. The break was caught with about 70 kms to go. Right after that, another young Utensilnord rider (Bernard Bendeguz) launched an attack broke away with Jozsef Hartmann. This move proved to be very strong and the peloton chased so hard that it split.
With about 30 kms to go, an elite group that consisted the main favorites caught up with the escapees and a group of 8 was formed (the 2 escapees, Lovassy, Kusztor, TT champ Fejes and 3 other guys from Utensilnord). In order to prevent Utensilnord to control the race by another attack, Kusztor made his own move but never gained more than a 20 s advantage, but the chasing the move caused Utensilnord to lose most of their riders. With a little over 10 km to go, Lovassy and Utensilnord's leader (Zsolt Der) caught Kusztor and the trio seemed like a sure thing to make it to the finish.
However, they looked at each other too much, nobody wanted to lead and 3 youngsters (Fejes and 2 guys from Utensilnord (Rozsa and Pelikan)) caught them. These 6 finished together and surprisingly, Balazs Rozsa won the sprint ahead of Kusztor, even though Der and Lovassy are considered the best Hungarian sprinters.
So Rozsa is the champ with a very good ride (he did a lot of work covering the move of Kusztor and than in order to catch up to the leaders and still won the sprint) and he is only 18. Funnily, he is not the U23 champ for some reason, that became Janos Pelikan who finished 6th. Anyway, he is another hope for Hungarian cycling, hopefully he can make it to WT some day.
