Oh come on, In the middle of the road? He should be on the edge of the road like most others. Durbo had no chance there!

I'll admit I didn't quite see exactly how the crash happened as the camera was behind so there were riders in front of him but about what 30/40 riders had already passed the guy without issue, so to say the last guy in the group had no chance to pass him is ignoring the role of the rider himself.

Of course the guy shouldn't have been there, but Durbridge should probably have payed more attention. And we don't know why the guy was in that spot, maybe other helpers were in the way, or maybe he needed to get there to get the bottle to his guys and rather than move back suddenly stayed in position so riders could avoid him. Yeah he screwed up but lets not pretend it's the same as the moron who almost cost Guerini the Alpe-D'huez stage by jumping in front of him to take a photograph.

Because that was what was the young inexperienced rider decided to do, and then the experienced DS told him to conserve his energy till later.

Yesterday Riis said that the key to the mountain jersey is to win the stage. The first 3 give 10 points each (30 points in total) and the last one gived 40 points alone. If they waste energy fighting eachother and Nibali then they havent achirved anything. Riis's plan seems to be the stage first and foremost and then the KOM-jersey will follow as a consequence. Big plan, big risk, but also possible big reward.

Yes and Riis is going to tell the press exactly their tactics?

If he wanted Majka to save energy he's be sitting behind Nibali and the rest.
Majka's best chance of winning is sitting in the peloton and attacking late in the stage while the GC guys are still looking at each other.

He wouldn't be out in front if he wasn't trying to nab some points.

The responsibility should be on Tinkoff-Saxo to make the pace. Why would anybody else want to tow Majka to the last mountain?

Anyone thinking Kwiatkowski could do a top 10...

Yeah, it seems like all the 'experts' in Poland began to think that way after stage 16. I dont think he can place higher than 14th in this tour even considering TT. His legs just arent there. Mistakes were made by him/team earlier in the season and now paying for it.

Also, Kiriyenka being up the road is great for Majka. Snatches couple of points away from Purito. And I disagree with those saying that he should be with Nibali if he is conserving strength. 2nd group (one he is in) doesnt have top 5 contender so they might be allowed to arrive at the last climb with 1-2minutes advantage. If thats the case then he will attack once the road starts rising for the last time and try to hold-off actual GC contenders

It sure as hell is exciting though. I am DVRing it and will watch once I get back from work.

He was just dropped on the last climb ffs. You'd swear he was Contandor.
Mollema, Rolland, Schleck, Van der Broeck and Purito are all better climbers on their day.

I was reading a book and glancing at the TV every 20 mins.
Got a jolt when I saw Mollema

What did I miss?

And why so many Movistars up front? Is Valverde attacking before the last climb?

Mollema is in the breakaway and now attacked the breakaway since nobody wants to ride. Kiryenka is about 2 minutes ahead

Kiri over 2 mins clear of the 2nd group now, this is playing into his hands. Nearly 4m 30 to GC group now too.

Which of those 5 riders finished first and second in the Alps? Majka might not be on his best day, but my thinking wouldn't change.
