bear in mind those pictures are not the whole story.............it will be interesting to hear the official verdict

my feeling is that it was more of an unlucky tangle rather than fault by either party

neither rider appeared to deviate far from their line

but video I have watched was not clear

Mark L

Not at all Mark. Cav was way out of line. As I said before, the RAI3 overhead from behind image, clearly shows Cav was behind and initiated the aggression with a head but. Reactively Gerrins lifted his arm to keep his position and balance, but Cav was too forceful for them to stay upright.

Cav deserved what he got, the Austrailian was merely skrewed.

No I don't have the image, but Italian coverage showed it like five times after the stage.

Hopefully he gets a sanction, assuming he continues.

If it were a horse race he'd be relegated and the jockey (cav) given penalty days meaning no start tomorrow! I just hope the others he caused to crash are okay.

Just wish Sagan would not have been in such a hurry to pull in Cance. Let the guys who will win the sprint put in the final chase.

Cav tried to force gerrans out the way, gerrans handlebars then hit Coquard's and Gerrans was forced back into Cav. Cav leaning into Gerrans did not cause the crash it was Gerrans handlebars hitting Coquard's.
Haha,
This reminds of a "shoulder that throttled to someone's teeth"not long ago, in a world cup

This is from cyclingquotes.

"The Brit was obviously in a lot of pain and is likely to be out of the race with a broken collarbone."

I still haven't heard anything from Cav or OPQS though.

This could have been my best sprint ever. Was in Kittel's wheel last km, but because of that crazy move of Cav I couldn't sprint! #TourdeSep

When watching the sprint replays, take a look over to the far left of the screen (right side of road) to see Froome do a crazy sprint to get from behind/just around the crashing guys to fly to the front and finish 6th.

Wondering if he thought he could gain a bit of time here and forgot about the 3k rule? Or maybe saw Rogers' Tinkoff jersey up ahead and in the split-second decision, panicked and thought it was Contador?

edit-

Froome's comments from the CN article up now:
I know that team car positioning is a big issue and I just thought, we don’t have a sprinter, so why not get a good car position. I was well positioned and the crash with Cav happened on the left and I was on the right. I just carried on going."

Bit of a risky decision.

But why did Gerrans handlebars hit Coquard's?

Because Cav leaned into Gerrans? (what do I win?)

I'll have to watch again, but it looks like Cav was out of position, panicked when Sagan went and decided he need Gerran's position. Poor Simon had no where to go and was fighting to keep Cav off of him. This one was all Cavendish IMO.

Cav is done for this TDF. No way he rides tomorrow.

David Millar was talking about this on ITV before CF said anything. He noticed Thomas was there to get the car slot but he dropped off when he saw Froome.

I think the person you quoted wasn't actually asking the question in the general sense, he was trying to lead the other poster he quoted into realising that blaming Gerrans for the crash was crazy.

agreed, Cav is a dirty cyclist and if he's out for good, then he deserves it

Car slot is always usefull, but it is on wednesday when it could prove decisive, if between two cobble sections you puncture a tire, having your car Fifth or twelfth can make a massive difference for a leader.

Btw. I'm glad that none of the GC guys were involved in crashes, I expected to see more crashes today, but luckily I was proven wrong.

According to Millar, Garmin certainly had tomorrow flagged up as one to worry about in case of losing position through punctures / mechanicals and it seems Sky think so too. But at this early stage, no one wants to give too much away.

Cav admits he caused the crash, according to Daniel Friebe.

Decision on his continuing to be made tomorrow.

@friebos: Cav off for an MRI scan. No break but in a lot of pain. Says crash was his fault & will call Gerrans to apologise.

Sorry if it's already been posted, but can anyone tell me who the Cofidis rider was that went down in the crash with Cav & Gerrans please?

It was Julien Simon. Nothing is broken.
