You obviously didnt watch the world championship race live...

As Phil said during the commentary of that race: "he was wise to say wise words."

I was . . . and i hated every second of it.

I have never been, and never will be, a fan of Evans and honestly think he is completely past it as a GT rider, but seeing him drop Porte and Gerrans (2 riders i dislike even more) made me happy.

So today is schadenfreude for you?

Gee, the podium girls were phenomenal. :)

That is pretty much how I feel as well, although thinking about why I was cheering for Cadel, it wasn't only his opponents, but the guy has kind of grown on me. He's too much of a dork to really be called an 'iconoclast', but he certainly marches to the beat of his own drum. Now that he's kind of past his physical prime and the adulation of the Anglo world isn't on him as much anymore with Wiggo, Foome, Porte etc, I realize that most of my dislike for him was kind of related to backlash towards that (and the fact that he didn't actually use to attack). But he's really grown on me since his worlds win, since his awesome chase of Schleck in the stage that saved the 2011 Tour, in his weird, understated victory celebrations, and in the fact that he seems to look like he's digging deeper than so many other riders when he's put to the limit. The guy has shown alot of class in recent years, and I'll probably be cheering for him more than before until he retires.

Nice ride by Evans- hope he carries on with the victory sets for coming races

My post from Jan 16 (in another thread):

I think Corkscrew suits Cadel, short hard climb followed by descent that is a little technical at the top (crash there last year) and only 7K to the finish. If he can get a few seconds on the others, then defend---

If you fall into the Evans never attacked camp you must only have watched him in the Tour, but even then we have moments like 2009 after the team time trial, and back in 2005 into Pau. Keeping in mind it's very hard to attack someone stronger than you on a MTF. He's always been aggressive, but when and after he won the worlds it has paid off a little more.

GreenEdge must be pretty disappointed:

When Orica-GreenEdge sports director Matt White was asked about a potential Sky and BMC alliance, he quickly responded "Good luck."

"It will be every man for himself from the top of that Corkscrew to the bottom and there is no time to organise anything," said White of the 2.4km, category one climb with an average gradient of nine per cent. "No one is dropping Simon Gerrans."

I'm not really sure what Porte's expectations were. Wasn't he dropped on the final climb (before later re-joining) by the best guys at the nationals last week?

It might be odd coming from an Australian but I do enjoy when Orica GreenEdge gets beaten. I like many of their riders but it is good to see them challenged on homes soil

I wonder if this is an early sign of a really big and successful year ahead for BMC (added to the San Luis result). They finally got their act together after last year's Tour, finishing the season really strongly and have seemingly taken that momentum into this year.

Are you at the race ( i saw them 3rd year in a row up close again )? Evans just spent the whole time this morning hiding from his fans:(

I'm sort of the same, but i wouldn't like for Continental teams/ riders to always beat them, though it does add for more exciting racing.

Nah, I have never been to Adelaide actually. Wish I was at the race.

When I have met Cadel, he has always given a lot of time to sign things and does also interact with the fans. I think during races, he is a bit more shy and feels the pressure to perform. Peiper said that during the Nats this year he felt the pressure to do well at the race, which is odd for a race like that.

Great picture...man on a mission.

Evans is winning the second least important WT race (only Beijing worth less, barely) and that shows he's back? Back in Australia, that's about it.

Exactly, this race means nothing. Maybe even less than nothing. It's a WT race, thus nice to win (especially when you're an Australian racing in your own country) but it says absolutely nothing about your season, as it is way too early and races of any importance are too far away still.

Yes and no. At the end of the season a World Tour point is a World Tour point, whether it was won at the TDU or the TdF.
