Why don't you try racing downhill in the wet mud on skinny tires and report back how it went?

If you feel its too dangerous, just get of your bike and push it.

The heroes of old could race 400km staes with 25kg bikes in those conditions, yeah but todays oussies have to be babysitted

More importantly: did Carpenter actually increase his advantage since neutralisation, riding by himself against entire peleton so we can proclaim him strongest rider in the race by far?

I assume there was probably a bit of confusion and irritation in the peleton. Hopefully we'll get some of the riders POV after the day is wrapped up.

My best bet:
during neutralisation went to the team car to get a coat and got assigned to wrong group for the restart

Honestly no idea, but I dont think this stage reflects the actual strength of riders at all
