Really wanted Howes to win this, but he is more climber than a sprinter so I knew he stood little chance in that kind of finish.

Yes, Eric Marcotte is thirty-four (and I believe this is just his second year as a professional rider). He also works full time in addition to racing bikes, in the mold of the early 20th century French and Belgian riders.
