that would completley destroy the gt's. winning a gt means 3 weeks of regularity and great recuperation. a rare talent few possess. any rider can do 2 weeks, but 3 weeks makes the difference. worst idea ever

I think there's a lot more factors to consider than merely the recuperative abilities of the GC winner.

Much better would be to move the Giro 'back', so it starts one week later. That and having 23 race days, no rest days, unless they need to transfer in which case they can have 22 race days and a single rest day.

Please enlighten us with your wisdom, oh jens_attacks, why changing Giro and Vuelta dates is not a good idea.
Better conditions in both races, for the parcours, for the spectators and for the riders, I'd say that's a pretty good argument.

GTs are different. Bad weather and at times snow are a part of the Giro. It's about history and identity.

It's not worth it if stages are canceled though. Snow isn't a part of the Giro, it cancels stages on the Giro but the riders do not ride in the snow.

I wouldn't have a problem with reducing the Vuelta to 2 weeks as long as it was a good route. Let's face it, many riders are only here because they are preparing for the Worlds or they struck out in the Tour or they are being forced to ride because their teams are barely strong enough to field a team for two 3 week tours let alone three. Shorter race might see more attacking racing and I think you'd definitely see more young riders taking part

Regardless of what I think, it may well happen anyway given the way spanish racing is going

+1 Totally agree. It's not a Grand Tour unless it is 3 weeks.

The giro can definitely be moved one week. No one gives a **** about romandie anyways besides you can have those 2 races at the same time.

Usually it's a different field anyways. Catalonia used to be during the giro too.

If you move the tour too one week, you create an additional 2 week gap between the giro and the tour. It might encourage more riders to do the double gap. I'm no expert though, might be completely wrong.

It should stay 3 weeks btw, 2 weeks is lame.

I;m not saying merely those things. but the only thing and most important thing tghat differentiates 3 week gt from any other race is recuperation and regularity. which is an incredible and rare talent to have so only those riders imo deserve to win a gt

the only solution I could partially live with is the vuelta in may, giro in june and tour in juky, but that would mean end of season juky and that sucks.

Riders are getting way too soft nowadays. I'd rather make GT's a week longer than a week shorter

And the average stage length needs to get up to above 200, be done with most of the short stages.

The peloton is shrinking rapidly and this is just the first climb.

No way this is a stage for Bouhanni like the cycling pundits have predicted.

would never, ever, cut a GT from 3 weeks to 2 weeks. That would be the end of cycling for me. A lot of the excitement of the GT's relies mostly on being 3 weeks long. It crowns only a few gifted riders.

Would be nice to some 2 weeks races though! Add a few stages to Cali and make it a bit more interesting.
