Well i think Giro is better suited for him than TDF plus Sky will have an ace up sleeve if Little Richie will have problems.Hard life at Sky for Nieve but i suppose he's paid very well indeed.

Is Hesjedal the singular leader for for Cannondale-Garmin? Danielson has been riding good early in the season and could compete in the mountains if he has guys working with him. I assume it's Hesjedal's team but just a thought.

I did read somewhere that Hesjedal and Danielson would lead, dont remember where though
Danielson has done nothing in GTs since 2011, it would be quite a thing to see him being a factor at the age of 37.

I think Tom could target mountain jersey. He was in breakaways all the time recently in Catalunya and Pais Vasco. I would love to see him in the top10 overall at the end of the race, though.

I would like to see what could Acevedo do if he is at least in kind of form he was at Tour de Suisse last year.

Despite Cannondale having multiple of climbers in their roster, I'm not convinced any of them will be able to fight for top10 in GC. And I'm not sure why they send so many of potential domestiques with no leaders for the Giro just to find themselves out with two leaders and no domestiques for the Tour. ;)

Well in 2012 he only rode a few stages in the TDF due to a crash, in 2013 he rode as a domestic for Hesjedal (stayed with him on his bad day) + got ill himself afterwards, in the TDF he also rode as a domestic and had no intentions on a GT. And last year he had knee troubles from the start of the year which made him skip the TDF to be good in Utah (which he was) so he didnt ride a GT.

But cannondale - garmin dont have to carry the course, I think most of the squads riders will get their chances and are allowed to go in breaks.

I think Danielson + Hesjedal + Cardoso will also all ride the TdF as helpers for Martin/Talansky and then guys like Navardauskas, Bauer, Langeveld and someone out of Acevedo/Moser/Haas/Howes/King/Dombrowski will be added is my guess, so that would still be an okay squad.

I think Van Baarle is scheduled to ride TdF, at least procyclingstats claims so. It makes sense, since we have cobbles, TTT and that makes him valuable support for this kind of route.

Hopefully some of the Giro guys will be fresh enough to ride TdF on a decent level, otherwise it will not look good for Cannondale in July.

I don't think Moser will ride both Giro and Tour.

With this Giro roster, I wonder if they'll send someone good for California.

Is Viviani still in after his crash? If not Sky still has one spot left "If things change"! :p :D
Maybe, it looks like Viviani won't get a real train for the Giro. Nieve riding the Giro is a little bit of a surprise, maybe Sergio Henao will ride the TdF as a domestique.

Nieve has never done better than 10th in a GT, he is not going to win a GT, yes he could get a few more top 10s but he is really a very good domestique in GTs, nothing more.

Euh i think you missed trevim's point. In cycling it's not all about top 10 in GT's.

There are some riders who attack the whole time in GT's and sometimes win a big MTF's. Nieve was one of those guys, very entertaining guy who turned in a dom.

As cycling fans, you can only find it sad. If you want to know what the nieve is we're talking about, look at the giro 2011. Won one of the hardest MTF's in recent history. Probably the hardest MTF of the last 5 years.

He was fully aware of that when he joined Sky and despite that he has taken the odd chance he's been given.

Thanks for explaining my point.
I don't want Nieve riding for GC, he doesn't really have the ability to make an impact. I just like to see him with freedom to go for long attacks on the high mountains instead of being a pacemaker for a stronger leader.
