I'd say the worst case would be if they climb Biassa from the road entering town from east and descend directly to the south (so they don't climb the whole pass, but only up to the town itself). Even so, it would be definitely a good stage.
Hmm, you're probably right.

EDIT: Nah, I think I prefer the second option. Bigger chance for a GC rider to attack imo.

I'm almost sure they'll do as I said, because Gazzetta mentions a "short circuit", and if you climb the whole pass it ain't short at all.

edit: and it fits with the top being at 10 km to go.

14km vs 8km. Both around 10km imo.

I think the map image is a bit misleading though (How do you think they'll do the start?)

Consider that we don't know where the finishing line will be. Make it 16 km vs 10 km ;)

From Chiavari to the west, through Rapallo, S.Margherita and Recco, then north to Gattorna, then through the valley towards east to Carasco, then south to Lavagna, east to Sestri and then what you already designed.
Pretty much 185 kms.

So something like this as worst case scenario for the last part of stage 3? (linking Sestri Levante, Carro, Levanto, le Cinque Terre, La Spezia and a loop with Biassa) If so it's going to be a good stage no matter what :)

You are using a tunnel there between Riomaggiore and La Spezia. I'm not sure if that is feasible (tunnel looks totally dark in Streetview). Maybe a more eastern approach is necessary, via Pignone. Wouldn't be as scenic, of course.

I'm 99.9% sure they'll take the tunnel.

@Eshnar your route is ~176km when I map it, so maybe it needs a bigger loop in the end ;)

If they're gonna ride the Cinque Terre road there's no other option than the tunnel

Eshnar - not worth its own thread right now but any idea when the Lombardia route is being confirmed? It's only about 8 weeks away and usually revealed by now.

8 ??? - Ceglie Messapica
9 no clue
rest
10 Casalmaggiore - Vicenza
11 Treviso - Jesolo ITT
12 ??? - Nervesa della Battaglia (possible sterrato)
13 ??? - Sappada (Sorgenti del Piave) MTF
14 no clue (Maybe Kronplatz, since they had a deal for 2014 and cancelled it)
15 ??? - Aprica MTF
rest
16 no clue
17 ??? - Lugano?
18 ??? - Cervinia MTF

Hi Eshnar, Thanks for the great info.

Did they climbed Aprica from Tirano recently? What are the odds for that given that the Aprica stage all but promises the inclusion of the Mortirolo?

The Aprica stage is expected to have Mortirolo from Mazzo and then Aprica from Edolo. I'd definitely rule out Aprica from Tirano.
The last time they climbed it? Not sure but probably 1991.

1991? Wow. From Edolo is somewhat closer of being a false flat rather than a proper climb...

Apologies for my lack of knowledge about Italy, but what are stages 7 and 8 likely to be like? I guess 7 will be hilly looking at the map of the surrounding area. Is there much down in Ceglie Messapica of interest?

This is a bank holiday weekend in Ireland, so I am considering a trip to Italy that weekend.

It's hard to believe there will be anything of interest in stage 8, if it really goes there. The stage to Sulmona could be very interesting instead.

Tovo di sant'agata not an option? They didn't go all the way to the top last time, right?
