Given how much bad luck he’s experienced, I can only think that a few years ago Wout must have broken a mirror while standing on a black cat at the same time as he was walking under a ladder. Maybe his measure of bad luck finally ran out with the crash yesterday and the fact that he got up uninjured to finish third. The hope is he can build on this and take some form into the rest of the season. A win at PR would be incredibly awesome, but you need everything to go right at that race, with no unluck. It’s the cycling equivalent of the Grand National. And maybe Wout is due a little good fortune. But you never know.

Maybe I missed this upthread, but what is Wout’s racing schedule until Roubaix? Would love to see him winning one if the cobbled classics even if not Roubaix.

According to PCS he's doing In Flanders Fields, Dwars door Vlaanderen, RvV and PR. Weirdly enough no E3.

Thank you! He’s already got an E3 win, so time to get after the others. And not gift a win at Gent like the last time :)

Seems like he’s got some of his explosiveness back on the hills. That’s already a better sign than last year. But I can’t see him following more than 1-2 strong attacks on Sunday. He’s top 5 for sure but misses something extra. For Roubaix it’s looking really good to be a crucial part of the final.

he was strong , the strongest rider in the race

but like last year although in a different manner , both he and the team were somewhat overeager

van aert needed to win and he should win solo . so they rode to set that up . but when even mvdp were catchable in e3 , so was he today . had a group of five to ten riders made it after the hilly zone , i dont think the bunch would stand a chance

I'm really gutted about today, as this was a win he needed. I'm also gutted knowing that on Sunday, there will come a moment where the gap to his front wheel will open, and me trying to pusch some cosmic energy to him in hopes he will stay glued, and the sadness I will feel knowing that's it for his chances, and no amount of support and good juju, can change reality. If they did a 3 week tour, with RVV being the last day, he's got a great chance, but that ain't how they race the spring classics.

I hope someone else surprises on Sunday, but I am certain it will not be Wout that provides that surprise. Maybe Remco, maybe Mathieu, but that Wout has nothing for Pogacar.
