Just wonder how many people will DNS or OTT today.

if winner does 1h20', the 25% limit gives just 20 minutes extra.

and yeah, Zakarin or Uran ftw.

(disclosure: i picked zakarin in my giro game team hoping he would do well today)

Has there even been a time trail this long this season ? Or even half the length ?

Probably the longest this year is the African TT championships was 48 km and it was won by a rider in the Giro, Grmay

Just a little anecdote since we have plenty of time...

In 1947 the ITT in TDF was a stunning 139km

I would have expected larger gaps... Pretty amazing actually...

Stage 19: Friday, July 18, Vannes - Saint Brieuc 139 km Individual Time Trial

Hesjedal can do a long ITT under the rain better than Contador. I hope he is recover of his effort in the breakaways.

He is not an specialist, but he is an endurance man.

But today can happens lot of things...It is impossible to do a prediction.

Easily is not going to be, Hesjedal couldnt beat Contador in the last ITT of Tour 2011, and then Hesjedal was in good shape, he was one of the best of that Tour and he had similar wind conditions, headwind, bad for Hesjedal... I think that Hesjedal has not a very good position for ITT, so if today depends much on aerodinamic, I dont think he could beat contador, If not, I think he will do if he has a good day. if depends in aerodinamic,s and Porte is OK, he will win.

aru to go 'full chicken'. you never go 'full chicken'!

Full chicken only works in the mountains not in TTs.

Maybe this was the full chicken he talked abt?

I think ful chicken is warranted as a term here...

Well, with Contador losing an additional 2 minutes because of his adjusted TT position, Hesjedal might have a chance :)

I was vaguely aware that their had been much longer TTs in times past, thank you for posting.

This is almost certainly going to be longest TT the riders will do for their career. Some will have done the 2013 WC TT at 57.2kms, Chavanel won the 2013 Chono des Nations at 57 kms. Contador did 55km TT at the 2005 and 2007 Tours.

And just to add.. The winner of the 1947 ITT Raymond Impanis was in his first year as a pro and only 21 years old .. What a debute
He went on to win the Fleche Wallone ten years later and Paris Nice 13 years later at age 34...

Saramotins is the second rider today, he is already riding. He won the ITT of last Vuelta a Burgos, so we will have early a good reference.

Aru could surprise a few people, he worked a lot on his TT-skills in the winter and wasn't too band in the long ITT in the 2013 Giro.
