French commentators reaction reminds me of Kelly's "that can't be right" when average domestique Richie Porte smashed even the likes of Quintana in this tt 2 years ago.

Richie Porte was bigger name than Quintana back then, and he won the mountain finish leaving behind that same Quintana couple days before

Quintana was a small name only to ignorant July only anglophone fans. He won the Tour Lav, a Route de Soude stage by 5 minutes with a 60k solo and matched Contador and Rodriguez in 3 of the Vuelta mtfs leaving behind even the likes of Froome for minutes on those mountains, while domestiquing.

Porte wasn't a total nobody, he had put in awesome performances like everyone else on Sky in the tour the year earlier but Quintana going into 2013 was the better climber.

and he won the mountain finish leaving behind that same Quintana couple days before

lol, you think that is a point in his favour?

You could see as soon as Gallopin rode down the ramp that he was very nervous.

I thought that too. I'm pretty shocked by his performance. To finish 29th in this TT after being so strong yesterday is terrible.

I'm saying that it was no surprise that Porte beat Quintana on Col d'Eze back than, as it would be no surprise today also. Quintana's major breakthrough came with the Tour. I know who he was, but I also know who Porte was.

Who was porte? A good domestique, that's what he was unless you can predict the future.

Quintana? The next prodigy, predicted by many in this forum.

Well Porte recovered unexpectedly well after his proverbial bad day yesterday, a good sign for future GTs...

Well off his 19'16" time from 2013 and Wiggins' 19'12" record but with the wind and rain...Apparently Kelly held the record for a long time with his 19'45" from 1981.

1. He did not win Route de Sud by 5 minutes. Neither a stage nor the overall.

2. He did not solo for 60k.

3. The only stage in the Vuelta where Froome lost minutes to him was stage 16.

4. Which was the third MTF whee he matched Contador and Rodriguez?

Porte was super strong today. But Gallopin also suprisingly weak.

Shockingly bad performance by Kelderman btw. This was a big goal and he's done nothing but pedalling squares.

Really amusing to see how Špilak is world class in this sort of conditions, and how he goes nowhere to be seen in the races with normal weather. A case worth studying. What's his next race? Catalunya to support Purito? Will he lead at Pais Vasco? I expect he will pull his best year yet and win Romandie again.

Worth pointing out, I think, how we have had great racing so far this year. I can't remember many exciting starts of the season such as this one, in recent times. Porte, as expected, rocked it. Great win. That was tasmanian tiger mentality right there. Can't imagine what's Costa thinking, perhaps how he could have pulled that extra effort for that extra second.
