Re:

Kazistuta said:
Woops, after making my team in the spread sheet I totally forgot to PM Armchair the team. Is it possible for you to include the team with a massive asterisk (hence not part of the competition obviously), or do I have to keep track myself?

Apparently I'm that lazy and would like to be able to compare easily after each update... :-*

This was my selected riders:

FROOME Chris
QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander
KELDERMAN Wilco
BENNETT Sam
GESINK Robert
TALANSKY Andrew
DE GENDT Thomas
KUDUS GHEBREMEDHIN Merhawi
WYSS Marcel

(It should be obvious to anyone that I'm not cheating seing the above team :)

Call it a good mood: you have been a regular entrant, and although your team includes lots of popular riders, it doesn't look biased in favour of what has happened in the last couple of days. I've added your team to the spreadsheet, but renamed you "Kazistutalate", and others can read you as an opponent or not as they choose.
While I like to wish all teams good luck, it would sort of be handy if you end up in an anonymous mid-table position.

EDIT: I forgot to post the stage 2 update here, sorry. Here it is:
Stage 2

Guaranteed Points
Cancellara defined yesterday's winners, as no-one had Dennis or Tony Martin, and also defines today's as no-one had Greipel, and Cavendish decided that his teammate didn't need a yellow jersey.

GREIPEL André 80 0 team
CANCELLARA Fabian 55 2 teams
SAGAN Peter 50 1 team
CAVENDISH Mark 25 14 teams
OSS Daniel 15 0 team

Today's points:

2 Joelsim 60 (Cancellara & Froome)
3 Trudgin 50 (Sagan)

Thanks for the tip AC, I'll try that once I have access to a computer.

Those with Kelderman are probably already disappointed. It's these kind of things that make the game exciting from start until end (at least, if you still have a shot).

only good thing about this new forum update this time: i can look at my team by clicking on page one.

Stage 3: Mur de Huy

The update was delayed due to lack of medical attendants

Two of the three most popular picks feature, but the biggest reward is to a brave investor in an expensive unique pick
Guaranteed points on the day
RODRIGUEZ OLIVER Joaquim 80 1 team
FROOME Chris 70 32 teams
VUILLERMOZ Alexis 35 0 team
MARTIN Daniel 25 1 team
GALLOPIN Tony 15 1 team
VAN GARDEREN Tejay 10 1 team
NIBALI Vincenzo 5 2 teams
YATES Simon 3 5 teams
QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander 2 35 teams
MOLLEMA Bauke 1 0 team

And yet, it turns out that Froome + Van Garderen (another unique pick) is just as good a return as the stage winner.

Unexpected points from Guarneri :)
I'm still pleased with my team even though my second team with Froome instead of Nibali had Tony Martin. But I just can't cheer for a rider I don't like. Also if Froome cracks there's chance for me to make it to the podium. :p

Stage 4: Cobbles
I hardly ever watch football (soccer) nowadays, but I have seen a number of no-score draws that have been fascinating and tense throughout: I guess that is what happened today in our game (and in the race generally).

Guaranteed points on the day

Well, not quite no-score, but probably as near as we'll ever get in these games
MARTIN Tony 100 0
DEGENKOLB John 50 0
SAGAN Peter 35 1 team (Trudgin)
VAN AVERMAET Greg 25 0
BOASSON HAGEN Edvald 15 0
BOUHANNI Nacer 10 0
GUARNIERI Jacopo 5 1 team (Rote Laterne)
GALLOPIN Tony 3 1 (MrHender)
STYBAR Zdenek 2 0
COQUARD Bryan 1 1 (Jancouver)

Changes in projected points
SAGAN Peter 65 1 team
FUGLSANG Jakob 30 6 teams
FRANK Mathias 30 29 teams
DE GENDT Thomas 25 18 teams
NERZ Dominik 20 5 teams
...
SCARPONI Michele -21 1 team
MARTIN Daniel -33 1 team
CANCELLARA Fabian -35 2 teams
FROOME Chris -185 32 teams

And a table of the level s of humiliation suffered by Froome teams, although most will not be that worried, I suspect. Maybe at least this edition of the game will not be unduly influenced by one rider getting yellow jersey points on the vast majority of stages.

i have bet heavily on Contador + Quintana doing really well.

AC, can you post your excel file?

i wanted to know how well my other two choices for team would have performed.

Stage 5
The first real sprinter stage: the first real evidence of how few teams have any sprinter other than Cavendish, who looks thus far as if he might fall short of the hopes of those who invested in him.

GREIPEL André 80 0 team
SAGAN Peter 50 1 team (Trudgin)
CAVENDISH Mark 35 14 teams *
KRISTOFF Alexander 25 0 team
MARTIN Tony 20 0 team

DEMARE Arnaud 5 0 team
COQUARD Bryan 3 1 team (Jancouver)
CIMOLAI Davide 2 2 teams (Scrool07 and Trudgin)

*Cavendish teams: Bicycle Boy, Blues in the Bottle, Claudio Cappucchino, JosephD, JustSomeGuy, L29205, Leadbelly, Midge, Murrjt, Scrooll07, Search, Togo95, USPostal, Yellow Knight

So the top scoring riders so far in terms of guaranteed points are:

3 SAGAN Peter 135 1 team
4 DENNIS Rohan 100 0 team

Projected points
Other than Sagan and Gallopin swapping 4th and 5th in GC, and some changes on the points ranking, there were no major changes to projected points.
The only selected riders with a point change of >10 points are :
Sagan +80
Cavendish +47
and Gallopin -30

Only about 100 points from best gains to worst losses on the day, so not much to show in a revised table.

Stage 6
As far as our game is concerned, almost a repeat of yesterday: scarcely picked riders in the top ten, almost no change (until the sign-in tomorrow anyway) in GC.
STYBAR Zdenek 80 0 team
SAGAN Peter 50 1 team (Trudgin)
COQUARD Bryan 35 1 team (Jancouver)
DEGENKOLB John 25 0 team
MARTIN Tony 20 0 team
VAN AVERMAET Greg 15 0 team
GALLOPIN Tony 10 1 team (MrHender)
BOASSON HAGEN Edvald 5 0 team
CIMOLAI Davide 3 2 teams (Scrool07 and Trudgin)
SIMON Julien 2 0 team
IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Gorka 1 0 team

Top Guaranteed points: Trudgin up to 2nd
1 USPostal 225
2 Trudgin 190
3 Joelsim 168
4 JosephD 142
5= Leadbelly, Search, Yellow_Knight, Blues_in_the_Bottle, L29205, Togo95 137
then a fall to 88 points for 11th place

Projected point changes
The most dramatic changes arise from some cat 4 hills: enough said.
Selected riders with double digit changes on the day:
TEKLEHAIMANOT GIRMAZION Daniel 80 8 teams
SAGAN Peter 50 1 team
COQUARD Bryan 40 1 team
GALLOPIN Tony 10 1 team
...
DE GENDT Thomas -10 18 teams
VOSS Paul -12 1 team
RODRIGUEZ OLIVER Joaquim -31 1 team

And even less of a range of score changes than yesterday.

I'm away for the weekend: Sunday evening is the probable next update.

DEMARE Arnaud 10 0 team
FARRAR Tyler 5 0 team

Eight teams combine Cavendish and Froome to be joint top: JosephD, Yellow_Knight, Search, Blues_in_the_Bottle, L29205, Togo95, USPostal, Leadbelly.

The top 3 places are unchanged, but both new entries into the top 5 (Leadbelly and Search) rose by 10 or more places over the three stages, as did L29205 and Blues in the Bottle (now 11th and 12th): Vladimir, however, dropped 23 places from 5th.

Cheers AC!

Am hoping Talansky and Kelderman can improve now we're heading upwards. Would be nice if Teklehaimanot can hang around in the mountains classification, but fear his job is done and he'll be riding support from now on.

Our current leader causes me pride and pain in almost equal measure. Amis Velo is not a member of either this forum or Velorooms, but a guy I know locally. He rides far too seriously for me to keep up with him, but its good to have someone to discuss the sport with in real life. He has had a go at these games a few times recently.

My initial team, submitted to Trudgin on the first day to prove that I wasn't stealing everyone else's ideas, included Froome, Quintana and Van Garderen. Within 20 minutes, I realised that I had forgotten Talansky, who I had marked down as a must have, so I switched for the team that now sees me in 8th (still a lot better than my usual record in my own games). When I invited him to enter this time, I recounted my change of mind, he quickly pointed out that I could have had Froome, Quintana, Van Garderen and Talansky if I had taken the 5 cheapest riders as the filler for the team. As he was a bit pushed for time when I showed him the spreadsheet, he simply concluded "So I'll do that for my team".

My closest matches: 3 teams with only 2 riders that are different, and one special team with 1 different 'pick'...

The_sceptic: Gesink and Ten Dam vs. Bennett and Nerz
-> beatable, because of Gesink obviously

Tuart: Navarro and De Gendt vs. A. Yates and Kudus
-> possible to beat, provided succes of De Gendt, but likely to win against me

Kabete: Navarro and Ten Dam vs. Arredondo and Nerz
-> possible to beat, provided Ten Dam only goes up from here

Then, the one I'm most scared of... Collective wisdom!
Ten Dam vs. A. Yates is really our only difference. Don't see me beating him, I really hope Collective wisdom does well as they're not really in competition ;)

DJW has risen from 3rd before the rest day, to push previous leader Amis Velo down to 2nd, outscoring him by very nearly 200 points on the day. 3rd place Tuart has risen from 9th, and the 5 new entries in the top ten (Kabete, NairoQ, GeraintTooFast, Shalgo and Del1962) have risen an average 11 places to those spots. Conversely, Comodoro fell by 12 places from 2nd place, a fall matched by Trudgin, and exceeded by JosephD.

Projected final standings
Yesterday's maillot jaune had the worst day out of everybody today, mainly because of the decline of Fuglsang and the demise of Nerz, and so lost his lead, dropping to 4th. Kabete rises from 4th to replace him, although that could be said to be a joint lead with the Combined Wisdom team. Amis Velo remains second, while NairoQ and Tuart swap 3rd and 5th places. Hugo87 and Leadbelly slip into the top ten, the former with the biggest rise of the day, at 4 places which shows the placid nature of today's changes (and riding) compared to yesterday's.

9 Joelsim 31

Projected Standings:
Fuglsang more than made up for his lost places yesterday, and His efforts launch DJW back to the top of the pile. Kabete had 4 of his riders in the red today, so drops down to third. Handbrake, in 6th place, is the only new entry in the top ten, but his 6 place rise was eclipsed by Minessa leaping by 7 spots.

Sprint or a breakaway, tomorrow seems unlikely to have a high impact on the game.

Stage 13 A 'Classic Transition'?

Guaranteed Points
As predicted, not much action in the table today:
VAN AVERMAET Greg 80 0
SAGAN Peter 50 1 (Trudgin)
BAKELANTS Jan 35 0
FROOME Chris 30 32
DEGENKOLB John 25 0
MARTENS Paul 15 0
NIBALI Vincenzo 5 2 (Crevaison, Rote Laterne)
CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto 3 1 (Murali)
VALVERDE BELMONTE Alejandro 2 0
VAN GARDEREN Tejay 1 1 (Amis Velo)

1 Trudgin 50
2 AmisVelo 31
3= All the other Froomians 30

The only change in order in the guaranteed points tables is that Crevaison and Murali are no longer joint last: Murali carries the red lantern alone.

Projected Points
Precious little change in GC and Green Jersey, and none in the KoM, so perhaps a record low impact on the game today:

SAGAN Peter 50 1 teams
FROOME Chris 25 32 teams
ROLLAND Pierre 16 14 teams
BARDET Romain 12 1 teams
TALANSKY Andrew 12 39 teams
...
MARTIN Daniel -8 1 team
ROGERS Michael -10 1 team
RODRIGUEZ OLIVER Joaquim -12 1 team
FUGLSANG Jakob -28 6 teams

39 Handbrake 11
41 Minessa 9
42 Murali 3
43 Murrjt -14
44 MrHender -29
45 Midge -36

Top ten in Projected points:
Kabete and Amis Velo swap lower podium places: Handbrake in dropping 2 spots is the most volatile mover. There were absolutely no ovements below 14th place in the table.

I hope your family situation improved over the weekend Armchair cyclist. Game updates are not the most important things.

My unique pick Ruben Plaza unexpectedly won todays stage. :D Not that it matters for my overall ranking but it's nice anyways. So all my cheap picks minus Basso scored stage points and not only points for finishing.
