Isn't it kind of patronising that Roche, Basso and Scarponi all have/had the role of old ex-champions and former second-tier GT contenders late their career becoming personal fluffer to a current contender, who they were never previously team-mates with before

Which Roche are you referring to: father or son? Nicholas I wouldn't consider an ex-champion.
