As TV coverage goes, road racing, especially stage racing is about as expensive and technical as it gets. It's certainly not a case of a couple of cameramen on motorbikes and it magically appears on your screen.

So you are telling me that they had millions to pay to some ex-doper to show up and promote the race but they dont (or didnt have) have fraction of that for a TV race coverage?

I guess you are right, the TDU race is so lame that no TV would wanted even for free.

I guess, after all, there is some correlation between the race quality and no interest from the media.

Luckily, the Arab races are coming soon so there will be plenty of high quality, well attended cycling to watch.

That's kinda complicated. They could go motorbike-->helicopter-->cell tower-->youtube--> all viewers.

If you want to watch the entire race from the same motorbike, sure.
There's also some director viewing dozens of live feed in realtime and selecting the one that will be in the broadcast, other technicians working on the overlays displaying gaps and stuff...

I'm beginning to get the impression that you don't much care for the TDU.

Even CN cant get their act together (are we surprised!!).

From the banner at the top:

"Coverage of Santos Tour Down Under People's Choice Classic begins at 07:42 GMT"

And it is 08:10 GMT as I write this - and of course....NOUGHT!!!

Lets hope that the Geo-block remains off for the rest of the week.

Stream quality was good, and only a couple of short SA Tourist ads.
