It's time that Talansky started showing form, but I think that Gesink is the man for this.

Today somebody called Mark and/or Cavendish will win.

Wonder what Henao can do here, surely if he's on form there aren't many better than him in this startlist.

I love Ettix line up, they could have pretend to bother with GC and bring "some sort of guy of can climb a bit" but no they went all sprint train mode, really lovely.
Regarding the startlist, I'm looking forward (as always) to see Dombrowski back to his former self. I will also keep an eye for Senni (the guy who is supposed to have a Schleck like climbing style) and portuguese young gun Ruben Guerreiro who is having a great calendar this year; if he's bound to be a good WT rider, he's certainly on the right path team wise.

Brajkovic is a major candidate. I assume the usual americans will be there to contend?

I think Gesink could do very well. After injuries and personal problems he came back at a decent level in Flèche and Romandie and considering those were his first races again after a lot of trouble, he should be better here in Cali. He has won in Cali before, that always gives some extra motivation.

Dark horse candidates: Michael Woods and Daniel Jaramillo

Will be curious to see if Dombro can refind his mojo here.

Woods will be good, but Im afraid he will lose to much time in the ITT

Henao deserves a stage win. Maybe he can conquer Mt. Baldy?

Henao is clearly the main favourite of GC, a stage win is nothing compared to the GC.

Jaramillo could be a black horse, yes, and maybe his teammate and friend of mine Brenes, both of them climb and time trial well, but Henao, Gesink, Barguil, Braijkovic, shoud be better.

I hope Dombrowski goes well, and Talansky shows up. Really it is a very weak lineup this year. If Phil is calling it I'll watch muted :)

I also fancy Gesink the time trial should suit him over Henao and he of course has won on Baldy before. Angus Morton could be worth watching chance for him to shine

Damn, the fourth GT is light on star power this year.

Makes today's Giro breakaway look big-time. At first I thought it hilarious that Horner was off to Azerbaijan instead of this, since this would be a pretty major race for Airgas, but now I'm thinking I'd actually like to see Grandpa here so that we could at least have some suspense.

Airgas was not invited to California so they went to Azerbaijan. I think the organizers may regret not inviting Horner as he is at least a major magnet for fans and media

Yes, that's exactly it. I thought it was hilarious that Horner was so toxic that even California didn't want him, but since the star power is very weak here, he would actually have been a useful addition to the race, which seems to have stalled in its forward momentum.

Sweeting would have been one of my outside bets had he not gone into the break. Rooting for Eric Young now.

Am I the only one happy that we don't have an horde of big names here? I mean, it looks so wide open with the 'lesser' known North Americans having a chance. I like it a home tour. Still some time for Utah.

And we get institutional advertising starring Joe Mantegna. :)

Phil Ligget, missed his voice! Paul Sherwen's is commentating, right?

Yes, Phil + Paul and Christian VDV

Thanks! I had noticed Vande Velde's voice, I like to hear him as he gives some nice insight.

Utah is the best American stage race by a really long way.
