As netserk says, it's the whole package. I've disliked him since 2011, and the dislike became full on antipathy as time went on as his profile grew bigger and the scale of his self-absorbed, attention-whoring douchebaggery grew exponentially with it.

Fair enough.

Pirazzi and Txurruka tho. :p

Damn, what a crappy race. Thank you, Skujins, you've been the only redeeming feature this has.

Well, the stages Cavendish won had the redeeming feature that Sagan DIDN'T win them, which is always satisfying, but it's not like I like Cavendish even remotely, just that Sagan losing is better than Sagan winning.

Just think, in 100 years, when the current GTs have ended and faded into obscurity, people will look at the main GT of the 22nd century, the Tour of California, and think of Sagan as a Coppi-like god of cycling.

But in all seriousness I find it pleasingly noble that the ToC hasn't yet produced a route for Sagan to win the overall.
Even then though he will pale in significance compared to the original cycling pioneers like Levi Leipheimer.

Who I would still rather see win than Peter Sagan. I would literally rather watch a 48-hour marathon with no intervals of the best of Levi Leipheimer than see Peter Sagan's stupid face on the podium, and if he ever wins a race again it's too soon.

That's to do with their style on the bike though. I've little problem with the way Sagan RACES (except that I enjoy it more when he doesn't win), more with how he behaves and the public persona he presents.

You know, just like a lot of people hate Thomas Voeckler's mugging for the camera, but will still accept that his needless and sometimes senseless attacking helps add entertainment value to the race. Take that, and multiply it by 10^79 to get Sagan, because Voeckler is irritating but ultimately harmless.

That one was a tongue-in-cheek.
I understand where you're coming from. Can't really disagree.

Given their shared love of misogyny, Ryo and Sagan would probably get on.

The bold struck me as odd. How is it that Leipheimer can be considered a "pioneer" of the sport. Lemond, yes, but Levi Leipheimer???

Thanks.

The race seems to be suffering from the same problems as last year. Essentially it doesn't attract that great of a field (at least not in regards to GC contenders) and the route is fairly boring as the organizers try to make two stages that decide the entire race. The rest ends up being sprint finishes so we can see Cav celebrate. I guess this year is a slight improvement over the previous edition since it was clear that the organizers desperately wanted Wiggins to show up, so they made a route that would guarantee his victory before the race even began.

I almost hope Sagan does the impossible and keeps the lead after mt. Baldy just to piss off Libertine. As one of my all-time favorite posters on CN it's sad to see your borderline hate towards a brilliant rider with a less-than-average likeable personality.

We get it,you don't like the guy,but it's truly getting tiresome to read about. Why not just focus on races/riders you like instead of spilling your beans here?

Peter Sagan has been a visitor to the podium - girls and all - for quite some time.
regionemorlickapodium.jpg

I guess he got over podiums early.
IMO, most of the his misogyny might have been interpreted as irony by an earlier generation.
It's not like that any more.

I like him for his exuberance: wheelies included:

Every time you post that it makes me wonder what kind of person you are, that you're so proud of supporting that shirt. I can't figure out if you're just one of those people that likes to provoke and be contrarian or if you actually espouse that kind of stuff. Of all the reasons to support a rider... it really just reminds me what a tool that guy was, though I think I'm a little more forgiving than Libertine. I figure he was just a young kid, people change (I certainly did a lot of stupid stuff from 19-22) and he's an exciting rider to watch and not one-dimensional like so many riders, so I'm ok when he wins.

Sagan wins a time trial? Must have been a joke time trial at a joke race against joke competition. At least Sagan is a likeable chap unlike Cavendish he's surely going to win at least another stage. Bah.

well, with the distance, it was more of a prologue than a proper time trial. An sagan winning prologue with no Malori, Martin, Cancellara is not that big of a surprise.

As far as tomorrow is concerned, I don't think sagan will even bother to try, at some point, he will just wave to the cameras, Mount Baldy and Green Mountain are his favourite for this

He will bother to try this time.

I think Sagan shoud try the podium, it is possible. Gesink and Henao are no so far, the distance with Jaramillo and others is not so big, but not so small.

Braijkovic was weak yesterday, he did very well ITT in the past.

It's vulgar but if you think this is some despicable display of misogyny, you're probably reading the Guardian more frequently than even I do. The somewhat deplorable reality is that the boldness and confidence this choice of tshirt signifies comes across quite well. That, or money and status. :p

How can some not like this guy?
Like I've said, his riding does not bother me other than that it's by Peter Sagan, so it's better when his attempts to win fail. It's Peter Sagan I can't stand, not his style on the bike.

Correct, it isn't. A previous generation who grew up in pre-civil rights days might see nothing wrong with Michael Albasini calling Kevin Reza a "dirty n****r" either, doesn't mean that it's not unacceptable.

There are enough reasons to dislike Sagan when we have the most basic kind of decency. For me it started with all these wheelies. If it were once in a while okay. But any time? He must have a grain. There's nothing great in wheelying, even my granny can do that. Just his attitude on the podium a few days ago, I mean, has this guy grown up? Even 10 year old kid no longer does that. The look on Alaphilippe's face was priceless. Besides this kid loves money so much. At least there is immanent justice to his recent counterperformances in the classics but well he's some kinda Betancur, showing the middle finger to his fans. The shame of our sport.
