I dunno man, coming after 2 fairly mundane cat 3's and a few bumps, I doubt Astana will be pushing a monster pace yet, might save it for the cat 1 at the end, so unless the breakaway takes it which is entirely possible, some of the Giant lot will probably still be there at that point, there will surely be a scramble for the 3 seconds.
If they wait till the beginning of the cat 1 (7kms @ 6%) they'll get nothing. The last 5kms of the stage are on a straight open road where Dumoulin can TT back to Aru if he just gets a few seconds over the summit and the technical part of the descent.

It would have been much better if the ITT was the last stage before Madrid. Seeing them fighting for victory in a sprint finish would be delicious. This way, I believe tomorrow Aru will take 30 seconds on Dumoulin and the big hype will be over.

By the way, Valverde said the win conditions changed, that might explain the relatively good performances by the last few starters (Chavito was 20th even  )

Yeah, the early starters (including Bodnar) had an advantage, then the middle part was screwed and at the end it more or less changed again to Bodnar-conditions.

That explains Valverde, Quintana and Chaves (Dumoulin is self-explanatory if the expression fits)
But how come it didn't help Majka, Nieve, Moreno and Purito?
Aru's performance was more or less expected.

Wind affecting things is ridiculous. Time trials should be changed to a one hour stationary bike effort in time trial gear and position. Then wind tunnels are used to determine the aero coefficient and then every rider's wind-less time over the actual course is calculated. It has to be fair.

That would be the beginning of end to cycling, let's get serious.
In this case, let's be "fair" in all stages. No more echelons, everybody must wait after a crash, everybody should work just as hard in a breakaway.

Hoping for Aru to pick the win up. Incredible consistent - 3 podiums and a 5th behind Contador, Froome, prime Valv and JRod. That's sick. He doesnt seem to have the super high level (apart from what he displayed in Andorra), but he is able to limit his losses and the guy rides with pure instinct and heart. A rider of my taste. Talent wise, he probably isnt Quintana/Andy-esque, but still, what a rider he is. I got nothing but praise for him. Take a look at his PCS - I freaking cant remember when he didnt race to win the race, always up there. Still a better love story than twillight.

Anyways, also superb performances by Valv and Quintana. Quintana is especially promising, I kinda knew he always had it in him since he is a diesel, but I didnt expect this. Super promising ride! And Valv again displays how incredible a bike rider he is. Pure freaking class.

Quite strange result for me, people as Quintana, or even Aru wanst superstrong in the mountains and now good in the ITT, better than especialist.
Talking with Giant people they think no way to win La Vuelta with just 3 seconds, becouse that difference even in Avila finish is posible to put, but I hope Giant could keep that, although Astana have much better team and tomorrow is a long an very tough day, really nasty day to make pain in GC.

Aru with the time trial of his life.
Not a surprise, he only lost 12 seconds to Ion tín the 25km long flat Poland ITT and his position has improved a lot, now he looks way better an smoother on a TT-bike.
Today La Gazzetta wrote that Martinelli that the gaps will be made on the first 31km and that the gaps on the final technical part of the ITT will be minimal, looks like he was right.
