Hm, I expected Froome to be stronger. Not impressed.

makes tomorrow interesting then? He was so lethal yesterday. Today is all right. Contador not bad. Porte paid for what he did yesterday.

Froome didn't look that good in that sprint.
I thought he looked really good. He held Martin's wheel for aboout 300m, despite Martin - one of the most explosive riders in the world on steep finishes like this - going flat out.

Put 15 seconds on Porte in 500m.
Didn't put that much into a Contador who's already attacked twice and looked pretty bad. If Froome had the legs, he would've attacked as soon as Henao stopped.

Froome followed Contadors attack near the top of Madeleine too.

Bardet really screwed up by goint at 3K to go. He lost a partner & a sprint. Would've had better chance for a stage and making another 15-20 sec up by working together until some 500-800 meters were left. Too aggressive and without any sense.

I said this after yesterday's stage, that Froome's best is clearly better than everyone else's best, but he only has one "best" day in any race.

Those other days he is good, and his good is is only marginally better than everyone else's good. Not as dominating on his regular, good days.

The final GC is still totally up for grabs.

I like this French rivalry.
Both riders are likeable characters, and there's clear distinction between them. A bit like Anquetil and Poulidor. I believe French society can again be split in two halves depending on what rider they support.
Pinot more like hard working class hero, and Bardet as representative of easier-going joyful population.
Congrats to the both. I've become a fan.

That explains why he didn't look good then. But I don't think he was having quite the same day as yesterday, he was slightly weaker today IMO

There's no doubt about who the real hard worker was today.

I don't think Froome was weak at all. Looked very in-control, all things considered.
Berto looked better than I expected, but still not great.

The problem was, injury aside it's panned out as we expected and some people feared; König had outgrown NetApp but in signing for a team like Sky that has both a clear hierarchy and some of the world's absolute élite stage racers, he'd be further down the food chain and get less freedom than he got at NetApp when he was clearly their best GC rider at any race with moderately difficult climbing terrain and the team couldn't protect him that much compared to the big specialist units. Now, however, in many races he used to be a team leader in when he was a ProConti rider, he's part of that protection rather than benefiting from it. As a result his results have been decent and he's not regressed, but he's been less visible in the way he's accumulated them.
Good point, I see you are into psychological explanations all along as me.OTOH this not really applies for me as Im czech and I always watch him closely :) .Of course those points with Sky are a harsh truth and thats the reason why I was really upset first few days after his transfer, but then I just hoped for better results like I said in the earlier post.We have to hope they are coming this fall :)
Do you guys realize you react on this?

Froome has 5 teammates with him apparently  and only 21 riders left in that group
These days even Rowe and Stannard are good climbers.
kwiatkowski and konig have also made an amazing positive transition at sky don't you think?
I think you are going little bit to far comparing riders going with Sky almost from point zero in their carreers who improved gradually with König and Kwiatkowski in their first year at Sky.

Yes I agree, looking at most of the top riders crossing the line it seemed at really tough day in the saddle. Attacks early on and a break that Sky had to chase due to Bardet.

Meh. The last three years, the only one who has been able to hurt TdF-level Froome going uphill is Quintana. Don't get the feeling that that's changed all that much.

But the climbs here haven't been all that long. We did'nt even do the full climb today (start or finish). Ardennes guys like Alaphillippe and Martin are hanging on, so hopefully there's a chance that we'll see an Andalo-like street fight tomorrow.

Slightly different performances than I expected from what was the top 3 on GC. Suprised Contador hung in as long as he did, looked done for 3 k out. Suprised Porte cracked and suprised Contador out placed him. Also Froome was strong but compared to yesterday I thought he would be much better, was waiting for him to light it up after Haneo pulled off. Anyway, good win for Pinot. GC race on final climb fairly mundane, not much racing, just a test of Thresholds.

A day for pure cilmbers today, as expected, in days like this Froome will suffer with Quintana in le Tour, but in days like yesterdday maybe the opossite. The same for Porte, they are not pure climbers.

Anyway today Froome again very strong, pulling on the front and latter the only one to follow Dan Martin. Not easy.
