That's how I see the two based on their style, skill and outlook.

There's no doubt about who the real hard worker was today.
I agree. Bardet really laboured today.

Clearly not a pure climbers day when Dan Martin finishes 3rd.

Well said. Bardet is a city dweller while Pinot lives in a little town called Mélisey (his father is the mayor) with his animals.

So, is there the division among French cycling fans?

Bardet really screwed up by goint at 3K to go. He lost a partner & a sprint. Would've had better chance for a stage and making another 15-20 sec up by working together until some 500-800 meters were left. Too aggressive and without any sense.
I agree with this. He simply lost his cool. He got overexcited about the stage win, he got over-anxious about getting rid of Pinot, he lost track of the potential to take the yellow jersey. The result was he attacked too soon, then changed his mind, then slowed down, then led out the sprint, then changed his mind again and started the sprint too early. A catalogue of errors usually seen in amateur or junior riders all due to getting overexcited and the decision-making process becomes defective.

Certainly looks like Yates is the strongest he has ever been.

Yep i reckon he and Simon will stay at orica at then end of the season. Why wouldn't you?
Sky don't need them. They'd get less opportunities.

It would be best for both all parties if they sign one year contract extensions - Next year will be their 4th year as Pro's and let them ride for GC at Giro and Vuelta.

Pretty safe bet that Chaves will be leading the team at the Giro next season and neither of the Yates boys have shown they are ready to ride high in a GT GC yet

Pretty safe bet that Chavez will ride in the Australian summer - either TDU, Cadel Evans race or Herald Sun Tour - Safe as houses that Chavez will ride TDF in 2017 - Fourth year is when you test riders out in GC.

I think Froome just decided to ride within himself today. He really didn't need to attack or to impose himself, so he just rolled home after following Martin and still taking some time on the rest.

Really wish we had seen more of the stage today, but bravo Pinot!
AG2R had great tactics, Bardet maybe a little too anxious in the end, but credit to Sky who kept it under control.
Why was BMC working today, that was strange?

I don't really know about the Great French Divide but instinctively, I find myself siding with Bardet on this one.

Froome didn't look that good in that sprint.
I thought he looked really good. He held Martin's wheel for aboout 300m, despite Martin - one of the most explosive riders in the world on steep finishes like this - going flat out.

Put 15 seconds on Porte in 500m.
Didn't put that much into a Contador who's already attacked twice and looked pretty bad. If Froome had the legs, he would've attacked as soon as Henao stopped.
If Froome had great legs the Sky train would have set a higher pace and Henao would have stopped earlier.

I suppose Wiggins vs Froome is the working classes who stayed in Britain (apart from brief trips to Gent) vs the middle classes who left for the Empire.

Sky worked for 140k to controll the 25 men break, then Puritos, Arus and A.Cs first attack, A.Cs second attack and the leading Group with Pinot, Bardet and his 3 teammates. With 3 big climbs and the madeleine in it, without an ill Kwiat and Stanni, Rowe and Puccio as Riders for the first tour week, not the queenstage of the Dauphine. So there is no way, that they can ride faster at the last climb as they did. Poels was pulling in the flat and destroyed when they entered the final climb. Landa rode for 10km and pulled 1 min back from Bardet. And Henao hurt everyone.

After that Froome rode the last k at his own at the front of the group and were only outsprinted by Martin, the best puncher behind Valve in this world. It was a pretty perfect race for Sky and Froome today. They put time in Porte and Contador at the queenstage and saved the yellow jersey. And showed no weakness. Not as a team and not Froome by himself.

He is the only one who is in better shape of the rest, with allaphillipe and maybe some rider more..., the rest are not at his best thinking in le Tour.

Maybe you forget he won queen stage in Cataluña, very hard as well, with a long attack once and that his only weak point is recovery day by day.. for one week, no problem.

This remember me when people think Purito is not a pure climber becouse he is explosive, he has won important thingss in pure climber mode.

VMT. I think he has improved as a rider this season as well; wouldn't be surprised to see him challenging for the podium in GTs.

Moving from Garmin to Etixx will do that to you.

When will we get a French buddy comedy about their rivalry and them working against eachother in various breakaways? :D
The film should also include a few Voeckler cameo appearances. that would be awesome. :D

Good stage.Sky in total control with Froome cruising in.Surprised that Porte lost some time in the end,but a bad day like this in TDF will be a major improvement over his normal bad day.Martin&Alaphilippe were mighty impressive considering the stage difficulty.
