Not sure Etixx really have capability (Tony Martin excluded) to bring it back. Pretty disappointing break overall. Was hoping someone 3-5 minutes back on the GC might have made it in to keep things interesting.

But the gap is coming down so they must be doing good job.

About yesterday, would Tinkoff had been able to put Sky under more pressure by help pacing the break with Ag2r

Kizer and Kreuz were indeed pretty useless to Bertie yesterday...the gap just got too big for anything to happen. In the end it would have looked better if at least one of them had ridden with Bertie, it can't be morale boosting for the TDF...

It's going to be nice seeing VDB dropped like a stone again later on

I kinda feel bad for him, he's a nice guy although he's not good at showing it. Same with this riding style, he's an attacker, he's just not good at showing it :D

Etixx doing the chasing then. So assuming Dan Martin & Alaphilippe survive the cat 1 Col du Noyer, which is supposed to be pretty brutal, they obviously fancy their chances of a stage win on the puncheur friendly finish.

I really really hope Alaphilippe in particular can survive Col du Noyer, because I worry he might get dropped there.

Yesterday's stage was harder and he beat Froome home
Can't remember how many times I have read some really dreadful comment on here that said Dan martin is not a climber nor how many times I have argued with biased posters who constantly told me Dan martin has no class or is over rated or can't climb

Folks he is a contender so stop talking as if he is not

While at the same time bigging up riders who have won nothing to date ..and who never will

Martin could even finish 2nd in GC.

I'll meet you half way.

In his current form, yes, I think Dan Martin will survive Noyer today, even if it's ridden fairly hard. I'm more worried about Alaphilippe surviving it.

What I will say though is that I never have faith in Dan Martin sticking with the best climbers when push comes to shove in stage races. At some point he usually blows up. It also doesn't help that often he's had trouble staying on his bike just when he looks good for a result :D

I quite like Dan Martin, and I always want him to do well. It's just that over the years I've learnt to lower my expectations of him for the reasons cited above.

Great work, Praying Mantis. It's a solid stage presentation.

Much obliged, yo. It's not ideal to do these posts in the middle of a thread though, it seems three posts later people come in asking for the very info I'm trying to provide... Anyway, gonna take a break for a while. Let's see what plays out on them climbs today.

He could indeed. Only 9 seconds behind Bardet and Porte, so if he can win the stage and the other two don't finish in the top 3 then he jumps them by a second on bonifications alone. I can see Alaphilippe having to sacrifice any of his own chances in support of Martin today too, which is fair enough given their relative strength.
