Break caught after 43km, Lampre chased pretty hard. I don't get it, just keep the gap under control, why would you go after the breakaway right away?

Agree. I don't get it either. Keep it in check without chasing hard and deliver Ulissi to the bottom of the climb. At which point he'd be maybe the favourite. But this way they are using a lot of energy unnecessarily.

That break was very strong for flat terrain, 9 men and some of them were really good TT-ists. It would be really hard to control and if Lampre didn't expect other teams to help them later, then no wonder they decided to catch it early.

Yeah, it was a strong breakaway, but Bardiani and Movistar (?) could have helped them, they had noboy in the breakaway, it's a great stage for Colbrelli and Valverde could have tired to gain some bonus seconds.

Valverde's changed his riding style over the last 18 months, foregoing bonus seconds to save energy for the high mountains.

New breakaway formed after 72km, Laengen (Iam), Vorobyev (Katusha) and Bertazzo (Wilier), after 10km the have already gained 5'42". Even if it's just a small breakaway, those guys have big engines, so someone has to control the gap.
Edit: now over 8min for the breakaway.

Those guys at the front are going to feel quite lonely. A three-man breakaway isn't that great.

Yeah, but the gap is almost 11min right now and Laengen and Vorobyev are strong TT specialists, it's not that easy.

On Raisport they said that Dumoulin retired.
It was the right thing to do.

I think the same...I dont understand why Uran keep last year instead prepare properly TdF

The break is getting too much time as expected and now they are the favourites for the stage...Sprinter teams dont rely to pass that wall...
