Valverde to sit in the Astana train until 100m from finishing line. How will Sky fare is the big question.

Don't see less than ~20 GC riders arriving within a few seconds of each other here. Valverde to beat Ulissi if it's a sprint, Firsanov or Preidler from a late attack or Wellens from the break.

You can't win anything on this stage (max 10-15s difference between top 10-15), but some riders might lose significant amount of time if on a bad day or if they can't handle the weather. I am excited. Pace should be really hard from the beginning. If Nibali or Valverde feel good, I don't see why Movistar or Astana wouldn't test their opponents to see if the pace can drop them before final ramp

Anyway, it totally depends on if a strong team wants to control today. Don't see Movi doing it. Astana maybe? If a team controls, Bala is the big favourite if they drop Ulissi

Do the lectures, not much is likely to happen on the flattish section between the two categorised climbs anyway.

His week 1 form hasn't been bad at all. In fact it's by far the best he's shown this year

I think it'll be tough for the bigger teams to control the final, and we'll have a winner like Chaves, Formolo.... Something along those lines.

All the big riders talk about Chaves, he won't be allowed to get away at this moment.

All I hope for is the break isn't allowed and we get a exciting finale between the favourites, the outsiders and the likes of Ulissi. It always make me feel that the riders doesn't care enough about stage honour when a break takes such a stage as today, much like the two first MTFs last year when Astana really missed the ball. Landa could have won 5 stages that Giro, easily.

I don't mean be allowed to get away as in gain 20 seconds. But if a 12-16 riders group gets to the final three kilometres or so, it's going to be very difficult to control for whatever team is setting pace, and if there are no teams at that point, the leaders won't be going to everyone that moves.

He is explosive, he'll still get a bit more of space to manouver than the likes of Landa, Uran, Nibali... And I believe the finish suits him pretty well too.

Maybe, but Chaves is definitely not in the same category as Formolo for today.

He got like 15 seconds when they allowed him to get away, he didn't get that much time back on Inxausti IIRC. Abetone he'd never have dropped everyone and it's not even close.

Also, being the strongest on a mtf doesn't automatically means you should win the stage. Did Contador win 8 stages in the 2011 Giro?

Yup, Im well aware of that, but its how I feel about it! I want to see the biggest riders win.
