Why all the Ewan hate? He's 21...it's okay if he's getting beaten by these guys right now. He will improve.
Yep I think he is doing pretty well for a 21 year old

Thing is that sprinters develop totally differently from other specialists. Sprinters start to dominate from very early on. Gavaria, who is like the same age, was there at the pointy end of MSR.

I don't disagree with you and don't really think Ewan is an out and out sprinter anyway so I'm not surprised he is getting beaten in a drag race

He will be 22 in two months but dont worry, he will keep winning all those Aussie pre-season crits and stages at the TDU.

I have to agree with the other poster about the lead-out. Very impressive!

Why would I be worried? I don't care if he ends up being a top shelf sprinter or not, I was just saying he is doing alright for a 21 year old which he is

Hi, welcome to the forum :p We like to hype the eff out of 20-year olds and then bash them into crème brûlée before they turn 22.

The thing is that I just expected him to do better before the giro started. Last year he won a vuelta uphill bunchsprint against sagan and degenklolb who are actually specialists for this kind of terrain. Thinking he could win a stage in the giro just seemed logical.

Dumoulin on gravel roads:

"I think I'm quite good at it."

Let the destruction commence!

It is a day for him, and after to see in detail the ITT, as well.

I hope he get big time these 2 days, it will be good for the race...

I'm looking towards tomorrow, hoping for an entertaining race!
Nibali should be quite good especially if bad weather (which should happen), but I thinks he will hold back after Roccaraso, being unsure about his real conditions.
Though, apart Dumoulin, nobody of the favorites looks clearly superior.
Interesting stuff!

That's fair enough but winning a stage at the Vuelta is easier than the other 2 GT's. Watching the overhead again he did go around the last corner to tight and lost a whole bunch of places before Mezgec brought him back (great leadout) and that possibly cost him a little bit but I still think he would of finished 4th. To me he is performing as expected but I didn't expect much from him, I can see why others expected more from him

Kittel should go to track, he has the worst recovery and worst climbing skills of all time

Among whom? He might be one of the worst climbers in the elite peloton, even that I'm not too sure, but I'm even less sure what you mean by 'recovery'.
His power drops a lot after the mountains

Why should he do that? He's the best and currently most succesful sprinter in the peloton by a large margin. Oh and it wasn't his lack of climbing skills that lost him the victory today. The by far most likely outcome had he not had a puncture was him winning the sprint.

Alright, I thought you mean his ability to hold his form and win stage after 3 weeks of several mountains (in the gruppetto, yes, but with a lot of other people).

he climb better than the half of the pro riders. He won a stage in Romandie with 3 climbs no so soft...

I predicted today he would drop in the climb, but that is normal, it was a 300 meters ascent climb, With him there was a lot of rider... Greipel is a rider who won Tour Down Under with Willunga, a quite step climb where shine people as Porte, Evans, Valverde, Gerrans...he is just a little bit better climbing than Kittel, but better enough for an tage like this one...
Kittel has been pink and has won 2 stages hereand you say he must change to other place.. well, continue teaching a you big conclusions...

What boring races if everybody climb the same level...!!

To be in World Tour, you have to climb a lot, to win stages with several climbs, you have to climb more than average pro road cycling. But Giro field is not average field in pro, they are best level climbing. There are a lot of sprinters that cant be pro becouse they dont climb as Kittel...
