Good stage for Fuglsang and Nibali, I think. The sterrato (especially in wet conditions) should suit them best of all the GC contenders.

Dumoulin won't be dropped by the GC guys on this stage. If anything he will pick up time on them. Excellent bike handler / descender and has ridden Strade Bianche well in the past.

Hopefully no chance of EWP in case of heavy rain?

Depending on how Cancellara feels. If he is feeling good and want to race, the stage will go on otherwise he may just cancel the stage for being too wet/slippery

But he will only be able to stop those riders behind him :D

I'm probably stupid for ever picking this guy, but I have a feeling Jose Joaquin Rojas (at 200-1) could go well. He's climbing well enough, the short uphill finish suits him, and Movistar will likely want to send someone in the break for the benefit of the team competition.

Maxim Belkov at 125-1 is not crazy either. He can fly down a tricky descent like this.

Of the "shorter" priced riders, De Marchi at 25-1 appeals the most. Dropping time yesterday like he did seems a pretty good sign he'll look for the breakaway today.

Whether it is stupid or not is up to you to decide, but his best result in this year's Giro so far is 32 on the third stage. He has lost time on all the stages in Italy so far :p

EDIT: JJ Rojas

Niabli to produce an epic daredevil descent, almost catching up with the group of favourites by the bottom.

You are a genius Sam. Always making me chuckle.

Hopefully the EWP will - if necessary - be used to say that there will be no time limit, or it will be extended significantly, but that all time gained and lost will otherwise count. This way it'll be up to the riders themselves to decide what they want/dare to do.

Why is it that some people around here seem to think that using the EWP always means cancelling the race/stage? It means that the relevant people will go together and find the most useful solution for the situation. Last year when the ToC ITT was moved because of the snow was an example of the EWP. I guess you could even say that the re-routing of the MSR this year was, though that was more of an extreme situation.

Rojas not targetting stage wins in this Giro. He is Movistar road captain. Stays with Valverde as far as is possible.

This is for the breakaway I think. Adam Hansen will give it a go for sure. It should suit Moser well. Brambilla and Oss as well.

I didn't say Dumoulin would lose time. Just remembering how well Fuglsang did in Strade Bianche this year and how Nibali/Fuglsang destroyed the competition on the rainy cobbles stage in the Tour a couple of years ago, I think it is fair to assume that this is a stage very suited for the Astana duo.

Wellens is an ex-mountainbiker and good decender, perhaps he could have another go as well.

The positioning before the climb will be important, because the first half of the climb is very narrow. I'm not sure if riders like Chaves and Zakarin will be good at that.

Zakarin, however weird his style might be, is always near the front in the sprint stages.

I actually think that McCarthy might be able to produce a good result here. He was good in Strade Bianche and was decent on stage 4.
