What a shame that the weather turned the TT into a bit of a farce!!

Anyway, moving right along....looking at the top 10 in the GC right now.....I'm looking forward to the coming weeks racing.

Brambilla will lose the Pink Jersey, but who wants it??
All the way down to Uran in 15th spot is within 3 mins of the lead - should / could make for some exciting bike racing when the road heads up!!

It might just be that Zakarin's bike handling is very weak and that his first crash and following bike change took away his focus but his crash in the final turn led me to wonder if he had done a recon of the stage. He took the turn as if it was a 90 degree turn and then halfway through he realised that the turn was much sharper than he had anticipated which led him to oversteer and subsequently crash.

It might just be because he was all over the place mentally but it looked like an amateurish mistake that could have been avoided fairly easily even if his handling isnt too good

I reckon it was this, he lost it mentally and with the pressure he just couldn't get it back together. How he responds to this is important because in the end he really didn't lose that much time considering what happened

Hampsten did beat LeMond, Visentini and Chioccioli as well. Neither of these champs were at their prime just like Valverde, Purito and Evans weren't!

Tuesdays stage is very nervous, hard to control for Etixx if other teams don't help. They won't have the time to decide who should wear pink between Brambilla and Jungels. They'll have troubles defending it actually.

Just reading through the comments and I was specially surprised by how surprised people were by Brambillas performance.

He rode better TT's in the past if I'm not mistaken. Actually when I was listening to the dutch radio the commentator said Brambilla isn't good at TT's at all so let's see who's going to be in pink after the TT after which I went on a rant to my gf that the commentators in the Netherlands have absolutely no clue abour cycling.

She really didn't care as she really doesn't care about cycling, but I'm always amazed about commentators who get paid for their job that have no clue about what they are talking.

People were surprised because he recovered surprisingly well after the big effort of yesterday and, apart from that 5th place 2 years ago he hasn't shown anything in TT.

he didn't do any recons of the Giro stages in advance as far as i can remember, he was home in Russia until the start of Liege. He probably did one in the morning though

He also took many more risks in the final descent and in a few dangerous corners before.
He gained time on all GC riders in the final part, which tells me those other riders were being cautious.

If you watched Zakarin's Romandie TT, it was pretty clear that if you only added a bit of rain, he would be crashing multiple times. His bike handling is atrocious.

Italin in pink is always going get more media attention than some random guy no one in Italian audience heard. Attention is how sponsors makes gist of their money. Gifting the jersey makes zero sense from sponsor perspective, and this sport isn't run for fun, but to make actual money.
