Demare sprinted from 300m to go and got the stage. Very impressive!

That sprint was indeed very impressive. Maybe he can even challenge Kittel today.
Positioning does seems to be Demare's big weakness.

Boonen not happy with the snow yesterday, thought Boonen liked white powdery stuff........:D

He was right though, if they make an extreme weather protocol they should use it when needed. When the cameras were rolling the weather was doable, but snow when starting must feel horrible for these riders.

It totally depends on how much snow imo. Do you know if there was any accumulation? If something is dangerous I understand changing things, but if its just uncomfortable...well that's part of the job they've willingly signed up for.

When that kind of a discussion comes up, one image comes to mind...

No, Boonen is just a pussy. It snowed for like not even 5 minutes. He was already whining a few days ago about the dirt roads. It was "too dangerous". There wasn't even one crash in the last 50k. And why participate P-N if you don't agree with the parcours? Just ride Tirreno then and stop whining.

How can a classics rider complain about dirt roads?! :eek: His team directors needs to make sure he isn't selected for PR...he wouldn't want to race anything that's too dangerous.

This pretty much. It looks just like a hissy fit because Tom didn't want to get cold. That or he just wants attention, which is the same.

He said it suited his qualities, but that all the GC riders would want to be up there which would lead to dangerous and nervous racing. He was right about all the GC guys being up there, but the dirt roads turned out to be just as safe as the rest of the parcours.

I think all older riders like Boonen and Cancellara hate nervous racing after a while

They are cautious beacuse of what is coming up for them (The classics) so only natural that Boonen let his voice be heard on the matter. And let me tell you, hes not the only one in that peleton who shares that view hes the only one whos heard beacuse of the status he has thats the only difference!

Just a thought about the dirt roads;
Could you possibly say that they're actually safer in bad weather? If the dirt is muddy then you can't go as fast, and if the weather is bad then the bunch is more likely to be split into smaller pieces, lessening the risk of mass crashes.

But they couldn't have been that soft as there were so many puntures on that short section ....Lobato (got no team help) , G Izzggire (twice) ,Majka, Chava, Impey , Roche ...and that is just a sample

Spilak must have punctured too as he was well down and alot of those caught in the cross winds got back
Talansky must have too
