Just a question, could Matthews be a contender in Tour of Flanders?

I wonder why he never has raced that race.
I had the same thought yesterday. I think that RvV could suit him very well.
matthews doens't have enough power for those races, he is a puncher like gilbert and I would be very sad if orica had a chance of winning a monument, aussies are the biggest "cancer" in cycling nowadays

Ben Swift remains the slowest sprinter in the world to not only hold down a job on a big team but to also have that team actually support his ambitions on a reasonably regular basis. I can only conclude that he has pictures of Brailsford fondling a goat.

LOL

Well Michael Kolar is even better, thanks God he is only being used for non-WT races.

Well not aussies, but orica. And Katusha and Astana and Sky. And sometimes Movistar. :)

If Mathews has no shot at winning Flanders, fellow puncheurs of 70 kg or thereabouts GVA, Sagan and Stybar might as well stop trying. Many types of riders can feature in that race as long as they have a good team, enough experience and willingness to fight for position.

I think Matthews has great potential for 1-day races and indeed I would love to see him try the cobbles once. I think he has much potential for those races (also the hilly ones) then his new GC ambitions.

Justified pictures in response to an very sick post.

I'm no fan of Gerrans. Not at all, but the new "cancer"... That's just wrong.

Paris-Nice is a good one-week race for all-rounders GC wise.

He can win the Tour and then afterwards try for Paris Roubaix just like Wiggo :D

BTW Talansky was in the first group according to Eurosport UK ...don;t know what happened
There were lots of punctures

Maybe it's raced from the other side of the climb?

A really weird stage. It looked like it was going to blow apart, but then came back together. Of the GC contenders, LRP must be the most relieved to get through this stage, since he was completely isolated. Very ambitious design of a stage for the beginning of March, but I'm glad it seemed to work out.

Fantastic win for Demare. I didn't expect this. It was a very nervous stage, but in the end no serious GC contender lost time. Like I said before I didn't have faith in Spilak for this race, especially after the prologue, but he also had a flat tire in the crucial moment today, bad luck. So no GC for him. Hopefully he goes for a stage win.

Old mate is just mad that they are winning a whole lot more then his Portugese mates. Portugal is a pimple on the worlds radar at the moment compared to Australia.

He was runner-up in Junior RVV in 2010. As to how great a guide that is, I'm not sure. Since then, his only cobbles outing was 69th at GW in 2011.

His first year at Rabo is a poor indication though.

Bouhanni/Demare-rivalry continues

Bouhanni just can't beat Demare though, although he's way better in races where they are not racing together

Not really, if you do a CQ head to head it's pretty close, though Démare has a slight edge. Of course, it's kind of hard to compare when they rode on the same team for so long and presumably one was supposed to lead the other out  in the few races they actually raced together. Démare definitely had the edge early in their careers (though I guess that could also be a function of in-team priority) but it hasn't been that way since Bouhanni left.

That sprint was indeed very impressive. Maybe he can even challenge Kittel today.

Boonen not happy with the snow yesterday, thought Boonen liked white powdery stuff........:D

He was right though, if they make an extreme weather protocol they should use it when needed. When the cameras were rolling the weather was doable, but snow when starting must feel horrible for these riders.
