Great entertainment, but Froome's going to pay for those 10 seconds.
I don't buy this. Sagan pays for his everyday effort by getting stronger and stronger.

Sagan doesn't need to perform tomorrow...

Even the flat stages in this Tour are gorgeous. Hell, they're actually better than the mountain stages.

Yeah, I forgot that tomorrows stage might be shortened. In that case this wasn't a waste of energy at all.

Froome could have outsprinted Sagan if he'd have been a bit more patient. Probably gifting him the stage, Armstrong style.

I'm sure the deal was Sagan gets the stage win if he works and lets Froome take 2nd for the bonus seconds.

It's a bit of a different situation; Sagan will effectively taking a = rest day for the next two stages. Froome has to be at his very best.

wow- Is that Froome so afraid of not being able to drop Quintana?

Or he's putting on a show for the fans because he knows he can win the Tour whilst making it entertaining at the same time. If he was worried, he'd just play it safe, no need to attack in yellow

That's about the 657th race this year when Kristoff loses a WT win due to an absolutely absurd late breakaway staying away.
Well, If he and his team at least tried to make races and win them instead of being a bunch of wheelsuckers...

Huge waste of energy
Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, eh?

Very much so. If he rides conservative he's a robot and he's killing cycling. Now that he's actually attacking he's an idiot who has on clue what he's doing and wasting energy.

Just imagine for a second Contador or Nibali would have done it. Pretty sure there wouldn't be nearly the same backlash.

Can't imagine anything else apart from Froome being worried about the mountains. Lots of effort for 10-12 seconds. Good racing though

So even Kristoff is getting called a wheelsucker now? Don't like the guy, but I advise you to go and watch last year's RVV

Quintana used a fair bit of energy too let's not forget - I saw him on his own on the wrong side of the wind quite a few times in the run in.

Only time will tell if he spent too much energy, but Froome's ride today was pure PANACHE.
There won't be any Ventoux tomorrow.

It was worth the gamble as deft not gonna be a Mt Ventoux finish tomorrow :(
But they're still doing the hardest part of the climb - and the part which most suits Quintana. Followed the next day by a really hard TT. 12 seconds is nothing compared with what can be gained or lost on these two days.
