what a great stage, the highlight was deflated flamme rouge...other than that not much happened

The stage was good up front. The peloton on the other hand deserved to be crushed by a giant inflatable arch.

Indeed. I can only iterate: Modern GC riders are ridiculously overrated.

Hopefully Yates gets the same time as the peloton. Utterly ridiculous to have his Tour ruined by this.

Yeah, sure the 3k rule might not count, but there ought to be some levity when you get a frikkin' flame rouge arch over you.

The last time I remember something similar was the final mountain stage at the 2004 Giro when visitors blocked the col for riders behind the favorites group around Cunego and Honchar. Popovych was the most famous victim back then and if my memory is correct he ain't got any time benefits and lost his 4th place overall to Cioni!?

Looks like it's time for Pinot to go into Stage-Hunter/KOM mode.

Tonton is dead. I told you man, your pinot is very overrated. I think bardet is better than him

Are you gonna stop spitting your hate at Pinot for a moment ?
There was obv something wrong with him. But I admit that his Tour is fcked.

I couldn't tell for sure but a replay on French Eurosport I think showed Pinot puking on way up the Aspin. Either that or he has some serious post-nasal drip going on

No Yates so far. :(

Assuming that he hasn't been injured too badly to continue, they won't screw him on time.

Valverde can podium again.
Contenders are slowly dropping down

Why? We still have Quintana, Froome, Aru, Bardet, Tejay, Porte, Purito and some others.

Only Pinot is gone. Contador is being saved another day. May recover fast enough.

In this shape?

Assuming he gets over whatever is wrong with him and doesn't drop-out completely.

If he comes to believe it, Sky will be partying tonight.

The most effective brake on Quintana is Valverde thinking he can podium.

he wasn't great last year and won alp d'huez.

There's "not great" and then there's "getting dropped by a 50 rider peloton that's going at Sunday ride pace". Presumably he has some kind of illness.

I would be **** fuming if i was Yates, he was on the attack too

They are taking the times from 3k

Posted earlier that A.Yates was chasing the white jersey ( at least for a day ) hence attacking on the top of the climb - Reckon he was at least 10 or 15 seconds clear of the peleton at that stage - He may still get the white jersey if times are neutralised from 3kms.

This year's Tour is neck and neck so far with 2012 in the most boring of recent times stakes.

Tomorrow four years ago was the first sighting at the Tour (after strangling one week races all season) of the by now infamous Sky train which shredded the field to pieces on the Planche des Belles Filles and gave Froome his first Tour stage win. Maybe Sky will commemorate the anniversary with some fireworks tomorrow.

I'm thinking back wistfully to last year's Vuelta, where the first week gave us GC action nearly every day and plenty of attacks.

Maybe this year will turn out like the 2011 Tour, where a tight and eventful second half made people forget how bad the first week was. We can but hope.
