So Tinkoff should have had someone i the break today but not two days ago? Who should it have been and what use would it be? It is not like the onus will be on Tinkoff to chase the break in any case.
Tinkoff riders' absence from the break means Contador isn't the strongest rider in the team, at the moment.

or more likely, the entire of Contador's team is weak in the first place anyway.

I dunno, Roman Kreuziger is a GC contender according to Roman Kreuziger. :D

I don't get why the break is loosing time. They are 30 riders, and working together perfectly, while there are only 2 or 3 riders working in the peloton. Of course the helpers in the peloton can go all out on the flat and then drop on the climbs but still this seems strange.

Why are Bardet, Rodriguez and Martin at 34, but Aru/Porte/Quintana at 51? Makes no sense.

Probably the expectation that the former might dig for a stage win without serious GC aspirations but the latter might play it more conservatively.

More likely to attack plus more likely to win from a small group because they are more explosive. It's the stage win that's being bet on, not GC ability. Also Froome's presence makes it less likely that any of the latter three can just ride everyone off their wheel and come home solo.

Nicolas Portal (Sky DS) just said on TV that Sky is working because Nibali is ahead.

Yep said not worried about GVA but can't let Nibali back into the race.

Good call defending against the Nibz Giro/Tour double

Stannard/Rowe and that Movistar lad on the front are gonna sleep tonight, chasing down a huge amount of breakaway riders

To me, it looks like the breakaway will have about 2 - 3 minutes at the bottom of Aspin.

Nibali misses the breakaway from the breakaway when he tried to create one
If they don't get away too far, he'll catch them on the ascent.
This is road knowledge in Maté's move. He knew where to roll off.
