Good showing from Zakarin today finishing not far behind the main bunch, hopefully he goes in the break tomorrow.

What would qualify as a bad showing, if not making a nearly 40 man group counts as a good one?

Zakarin is one of the most hyped riders in this forum to be honest. He was supposed to destroy every stage in giro according to predictions here.

I'm talking about where he is coming from he's just 6 weeks off a pretty nasty crash/injury and today was better than he had done previously in the race so it was pretty good considering that and so hopefully he will be able to do decently if he goes in the break tomorrow.

It might show improvement, but if today's level is what we are basing an evaluation of his form on, there are 50 odd stronger climbers in the race right now. At least some of them will be in the break tomorrow.

Well, I understand that the real favorites (Froome quintana) can wait Arcalis and stand on wheels, because it is obvious that they will play for the Tour.
But the second lines (aru bardet tj doors etc.) if they try not on peyresurde, when they move? unarmed expect the blow of Froome (or quintana) to arcalis?
They must take out definitely Contador if they want to go on the podium

Sure and maybe there will be further improvement tomorrow who knows, all I was saying is I hope he goes in the break and that I thought today was good considering the circumstances, no real need for some boring discussion over it.

I think if he attempts to go with breakaway thet it would only be on stages with mtf. Would be logical.

The bunch was slowed down by at least 1 minute thanks to the 'bow-case' ;)

I know they'll wait for Arcalis. But no way 40 riders will arrive together like today.

Maybe 15 or 20 if they are riding conservatively? Could very well be first 15 on the GC who arrives at the same time except GVA (who will be up the road of course).. :D

Will all of these arrive together tomorrow?

I agree that most likely nothing will happen with the favorites.

Hopefully we will at least see a big breakaway having a good fight for the stage win.

Very good stage for pure climbers. I dont know what the wetaher will be like but if there is a small enough group on Azet then we can see an interesting finale.
I hope Movistar will push hard pace in order to fatigue Froome a bit for Arcalis (I expect better recovery from Quintana)

OTOH as slowest pace as possible would be great for Alberto.

I don't expect serious attacks from the biggest favourites, but I want to see the stage ridden with high pace. There's been enough softpedalling in this first week and some more of it before Arcalis would play strait into the hands of Froome. He is strong, but not a pure climber and should suffer a bit more on a hard ridden proper mountain stage than Quintana. If Movistar decides to take it easy tomorrow and then Froome hammers everyone on Sunday, they only have themselves to blame.

My only hope is that Quintana rode Rute du Sud where the only serious climb was Col du Tourmalet. And tomorrow the peloton will be visiting Tourmalet again and maybe Movistar has some plans with this climb. I hope so.

There will be time to race.

Guys like Porte has to attack tomorrow. He is almost 2 minutes behind the leaders. They can always safe Tejay.

Hmm.. questions:

GvA able to defend the jersey tomorrow? Spent some energy today, but didnt seem like he was in the red? Seemed controlled.

Yates able to recover from the crash today and stay with favorittes to gain yellow? (if GvA is gone). Apparently he needed four stitches to his chin and got cuts to his arms and shoulders.

I hope that at least one of the GC teams has the balls to animate the stage. I want to see some gaps.

Unfortunately I don't think that GvA will be in the leaders jersey tomorrow unless he ends up in the breakaway again and the main peloton will give it a huge advantage.
If he is in the main peloton and they do decent pace then he probably will get dropped on Tourmalet.

Seemed basically fine when interviewed so shouldn't affect him

There's an aspect of this stage we didn't mention... With intermediate sprint before climbing, day's breakaway might form as late as Tourmalet.
