Sean Yates on Contador:

“Alberto had a bit of fever this morning. He told us at the beginning of the race that he wasn't feeling super and it's obvious," he tells French TV. "We've told him to stay quiet. Now the peloton is going slower, which is better for his recovery after the fast start this morning.”
Why the hell did he go on the attack then? Something seems a bit fishy here.

With Alberto dropped and Valverde reeled back in, we won't see any action in the following 2 hours.

But thank god that exciting break is saved for the moment. So much intrigue in whether they can stay away or not.

If Contador can recover for the last week, he should stay and attempt to win a stage (not from the break, of course). If he can, that would send a strong signal that his best climbing is probably still good enough to compete for overall victory next year and would stop that 7 year streak of having achieved absolutely nothing whatsoever at the Tour.

If he can't, he should quit and prepare to be useful to Valverde in Rio.

Is Contador begging his team to allow him to stop? Are his team begging him to stop? What's going on there

Yeah, seems like an excuse.

But then Riis says a lot of nonsense too, like that Contador would have won yesterday if he hadn't crashed
